Re: 837 Dekalog
I was able to place an order before Family Video corrected the pricing. My order status changed from "being checked" to "in fulfillment", so I guess they plan to honor it. If so, I'll definitely do more business with them.
Arrow points allowed me to pre-order their UK set for $20. Pretty stoked that I was able to get both sets for my most anticipatrd a release ever for less than $50.

Huh, strange interpretation. I would have thought it would generally be applied to the no coveting law rather then the no abduction one.Michael Kerpan wrote:Actually, under modern interpretation, the obligation to be honest and fair in business dealings falls within the ambit of "Thou shalt not steal". Promises must be kept and contracts strictly observed to the extent that the commitments made in them are morally just. A significant part of economic and social life depends on the honoring of contracts between physical or moral persons - commercial contracts of purchase or sale, rental or labor contracts. All contracts must be agreed to and executed in good faith. Contracts are subject to commutative justice which regulates exchanges between persons and between institutions in accordance with a strict respect for their rights. Commutative justice obliges strictly; it requires safeguarding property rights, paying debts, and fulfilling obligations freely contracted. Without commutative justice, no other form of justice is possible.

It doesn't apply to either of these, but to "Don't steal": http://www.vatican.va/archive/ccc_css/a ... s2c2a7.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;knives wrote:Huh, strange interpretation. The abduction one is traditionally translated (and I believe taken in Christianity as sans abduction which I don't entirely understand why) don't steal. I just thought that it is was interesting to connect business practices to that rather then coveting.

They gave me a coupon code that's valid for the next month, though there's probably a commandment against sharing it.FamilyVideo.com wrote:We apologize for the inconvenience. We have experienced a systems error for "Dekalog Box Set Criterion Collection Blu-ray Disc". We discovered that it was automatically uploaded to our website with the incorrect pricing.
We have cancelled & refunded your order for this item.
If you would still like to order this item, we would like to offer it to you at a specially-reduced price of $55.99 (that's 44% off the list price and one of the lowest prices currently offered from any retailer).

It's actually quite a nice gesture to offer you a coupon AND a specifically reduced price. At $55.99, it's actually quite a steal, close to what you would pay for it during a B&N 50% sale.

It is a nice gesture, though to clarify, the coupon code (specific to this item) is what takes it down to that price. There is only one nice gesture happening here, not two.

Its kind of weird, but my order status is "shipped". So, I guess I will be receiving the cancellation email soon.

Weird. Checking my order status, on the upper left corner, it says: Order #2172877 (Shipped)
Does this mean it's actually been shipped?

Isn't this coming in September? Why are you getting "Shipped" notifications?

I dunno, why was it priced at $25.00? Probably something to do with the TRS-80 they use for inventory and accounting.

Re: 837 Dekalog
They originally listed the MSRP as the standard $39.95 that applies for most Criterions.

Re: 837 Dekalog
Right, but their discounted price was about 25 bucks. I assume they have a standard Criterion template and that's what messed up the pricing. As for the "shipped" notification I'm guessing that's the cleanest way for them to tell the system the order is cancelled. Nonetheless, I still haven't received a cancellation notice. God is on my side for once!

Since the show was filmed on 35mm why is the 25fps an issue?

Re: 837 Dekalog
I don't follow - why is whether or not it was shot on 35mm relevant to the framerate? It was shot and mixed at 25fps.Norbie wrote:Since the show was filmed on 35mm why is the 25fps an issue?

Well Norbie may not be aware that some film cameras would allow for variable frame rates. So, yes, you can originate at 25fps in a film workflow.

Re: 837 Dekalog
Well, I've seen people mention that they will be purchasing the Arrow release because they will have it at the "original/correct" frame rate of 25fps. It's also been mentioned that the Criterion will also be in the "wrong" pitch, in regards to the audio.
So that's what I was sort of talking about when I mentioned "issues".
But yes, I didn't realise/forgot that when shooting film you can choose to shoot at 25fps, and not 24.

Re: 837 Dekalog
Right, it is an end to end 25fps workflow, which is why you encounter the issues when you try to represent visuals and sound at a slightly slower speed. That said, most people in the US would regardless have to view 25fps material conformed to to a non-native frame rate, which introduces its own set of motion issues, so the best representation is dependent on your individual set-up.

Anybody else still not gotten an email about a cancellation and/or a refund at all? Hey, if they still honor some of them that'd be great but I'm just wondering if anyone else was still in this position almost a week on from the first cancellations.

No cancellation for me, paid with PayPal if it matters (mainly because they have a 180 day customer satisfaction policy, just in case Family Video never fulfilled the order without refunding)

My order still says 'shipped' and I haven't received a cancellation email. Hopefully they honor it, I remember Amazon having a similar pricing error where I was able to get Heaven's Gate on blu for $11, and Trilogy of Life was listed for $12 but I was too late.

Same for me, McNulty: no cancellation email, order still says shipped.
Maybe it's a situation where they'll actually honor it once it's released, as long as I don't call beforehand and ask about a refund.
