Very interesting to see Les Enfants du Paradise listed there.

Re: Triumph des Willens, Robert Harris says he's been working on a release of the film as well (from a different source), coming soon from Synapse:

Wow. I didn't know people still made websites that looked like that. Maybe they ARE selling a laserdisc.

According to the info on the InterFilmArt Online Store, the RRP is $150, so that amazon price is actually a magnificent bargain.

InterFilmArt posted this over at the Home Theater Forum:
we negotiated with the rightful owners of this film some years ago to acquire an entire package of films directed by Ms. Riefenstahl and this year we were granted permission to have access to the director's original 35mm internegative which had been restored by Rudolf Goebel, a noted German film restoration who was responsible for restoring "Muenchhausen" (1943) in 1979. We are happy to announce that this film classic has been painstakingly restored to it's original pristine condition and this has been transferred directly to an HD file which is being used to replicate the Blurays. This process has cost us well over $275,000 and film buffs and scholars alike will view a version they have never had the opportunity to see previously. We are also including HD versions of the director's other documentaries (excluding "Olympia" which we intend on releasing on Bluray next year along with "War and Peace" on Bluray as well. An extensive poster/photo gallery will be included as well as a full color booklet on the history and controversial nature of the film. Also included is actual footage of Ms. Riefenstahl directing "Triumph" and other films; footage of the director accepting the National Film Prize by Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels in 1935. The original soundtrack recording will also be included as well as a CD-ROM of the book rumored to be written by the director herself, "Hinter den kulissen des Reichsparteitagsfilm" ("Behind the Scenes of the Party Rally Film," 1935, Franz Ehrer Verlag, Munich and a reproduction of the theater admission ticket with "Triumph des Willens" printed on the ticket and finally, an actual 35mm film frame from the film. The adudio has been restored to pristine condition featuring 5.1 Surround. Multiple removable subtitles as well including English, French, Italian, Spanish, etc. Chapter menus will be featured as well as a scene by scene breakdown. This is a limited numbered collector's edition and only 1000 copies will be sold. BONUS materials will include over two hours. The entire program runs over three hours in length and is the definitive version of this propaganda classic to date. A percentage of the sales will be donated to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum.

Wait, so they claim to have spent over $275,000 on restoration alone and are only selling 1000 copies at $100 each? Smells fishy to me.

I'm calling PD Bandit shenanigans on this company. Smells awfully like Mr Bongo tactics (since several of those films are not in public domain, I'd expect some fun words with the rights-holders soon).

This is some kind of pyramid scheme, right? I'm expecting the percentage of profits donated to the Holocaust Museum to be approximately zero ("Zero is a percent!")

Has anyone ever heard of this guy? A quick google search isn't turning up any results, and even though I don't speak German, searching google.de for "Rudolf Goebel Muenchhausen" only turns up a single Der Speigel article. I would think if he was really a noted film historian who has possession of the original internegative, there'd be a bit more information about him...

The mention of Les Enfants du Paradis has been removed from the site. Whether this was before or after someone in that HTF thread pointed out the obvious, I don't know.

Some entertaining detective work from that same thread:
I call foul on this one. The website looks like it was created in a blender, and the domain name is registered under a privacy company out of Canada that blocks the names of domain registrants. Additionally, the "president" of this company ("Dakota Whitecloud") exists nowhere online except for a Google+ profile page [NSFW] that consists entirely of pin-up shots of near-naked men.

So, I thought this was only for "pre-sale" on Amazon but the "label"'s website is taking orders and if you thought the price for the probably non-existent Blu-ray was expensive, please note that the lowest possible cost offered to ship one copy is $17.88! I'm pretty convinced that either whoever is running this is a total idiot or, far far more likely, this is someone's not particularly well-executed attempt at swindling gullible film lovers. Just think how much more "pre-sale' money this guy could have raked in if he'd gone after something MIA from the market like the Mother and the Whore, though! At the very least this whole process has already proved entertaining

If there's a silver lining to be had from the increasing likelihood that this is a scam, it's that the people getting ripped off are less likely to be gullible film lovers than gullible neo-Nazis.

Such a shameless scam. But it's good to see Robert Harris confirming a real version of Triumph des Willens Blu-ray is on it's way via Synapse.

Sent an email to Mosfilm yesterday and got this today:
Thank you so much for alerting us to the situation!

Mosfilm holds the exclusive right to the films

WAR AND PEACE, director Sergey Bondarchuk, 1966, STRIKE, director Sergey Eisenstein, 1924, restored 1969
BATTLESHIP POTEMKIN, director Sergey Eisenstein, 1925, restored 1976
OCTOBER, director Sergey Eisenstein, 1927, restored 1967
ALEXANDER NEVSKY, director Sergey Eisenstein, 1938, restored 1986
IVAN THE TERRIBLE, Part 1, director Sergey Eisenstein, 1944, restored 1987
IVAN THE TERRIBLE, Part 2, director Sergey Eisenstein, 1945, restored 1986

Mosfilm has not given InterFilmArt Entertainment any right to exploit these films (or any other Mosfilm titles). Today we have warned the company against unlawful exploitation of the films.

We do appreciate your sending us the information!

Best regards,
Elena Orel
International Relations and Distribution Dept.

Least surprising revelation ever. The website has now been scrubbed of any mention of anything but Triumph of the Will, and they even removed Eisenstein and Pudovkin from the list of "outstanding international directors" in their catalog. The HTF thread has been totally deleted, apparently after someone pointed out their logo was taken from an East German vehicle conglomerate. That seems excessive—on one level I feel anyone who pays $100+ for Triumph of the Will from a company with that kind of website deserves what they get, but really, people oughta be warned. Plus it's good comedy.

It is implied in this new thread that the original one on HTF was removed because the guy posing as an "InterFilmArt" rep started throwing racial slurs at other users, including Moe Dickstein, humorously making presumptions based on his screen name alias!

Imagine if the scam had been a little more sophisticated and these fuckers actually got away with peoples money.

Well, the site and the Amazon pre-order are still up, and that new HTF thread says the Triumph BD has been mentioned on Stormfront (I'll take their word for it, I'm on a work computer here). Unfortunately, if this slur business is accurate, it sounds like we might just end up with a bunch of racists sending their money to another racist, and it's hard to take much schadenfreude from that.

Hopefully Amazon will remove the listing once it's demonstrated to them that the seller is likely running a scam.
