I've never seen Mystics in Bali but feel as if I have, as this was one of the key titles in the original Mondo Macabro book that I remember poring through back in early 1998. If you need any further encouragement this is by H. Tjut Jalil (or Jalil Jackson) who went on to direct the other notorious possession film, Lady Terminator!DeprongMori wrote:Mondo Macabro title "Mystics of Bali" (1981) is getting a screening at the Roxie in San Francisco on Sunday night. Looks like a doozy.

Both of those titles got eye-popping synopses (a sample quote for Mystics in Bali: "The particular type of creature that Cathy has become is well known in South East Asian folklore. In Malaysia they are called penanggalan. At night superstitious locals line their windows with thorns so that the creature's entrails will get caught if it tries to fly in. The penanggalan's favourite food is blood, especially that of newborn children. One of the most horrifying scenes in Mystics in Bali shows Cathy's flying head attacking a woman in labour. It floats down between her arched thighs and literally sucks the foetus out, gorging itself on the new flesh.") but I mostly remember the wonderfully mangled, and strangely emphatic, English on the reproduced poster for Mystics in Bali:
The main character is apparently an American! The True Story of an AUSTRALIA girl who learn the mysticen of LEAK BALI (Baliu). The tremendous mysticen of LEAK Bali, is always feared the people of Bali ever end ever.
