I don't know.. maybe it's because the films are mainly low-brow exploitation flicks that people on here are less interested than other places

I enjoy a Jess Franco flick every so often (even if they do tend to drag in places) but I can't say I'm as interested in his films getting releases as I am with Rivette, Ghatak, Rocha etc..

^At the same time you can say Criterion isn't doing that either.

I've watched a bunch of the Mondo Macabro discs but I've yet to find one that really grabs me. I'm a big fan of Bava and of Hammer films, and those of Jodorowsky and Rollin and Amando de Ossorio, but the Indian horror movies leave me very cold, and the Mexican ones just haven't engaged me yet.

Since you like Bava and Hammer, you might want to check out Mill of the Stone Women. It has some great gothic-horror atmosphere and is pretty close to being what you'd get if you mixed Bava with classic Hammer. I'm surprised that you don't find Alucarda or The Mansion of Madness to your taste considering the names listed above.

I like Mondo Macabro, I highly respect what they're doing, especially now that the dvd bubble's popped, and cult labels like this have folded like origami briefcases. With that said, none of their titles have leaped out at me since Gradiva (which really raised my eyebrows only because I thought they might release some of other Robbe-Grillet's, all of which are dying to be ported over) and Born with Fire.

The first MM disc that I ever bought was Zinda Laash (1967). Definitely one of their best, IMO. Last year the Scandinavian company Another World Entertainment released this in a nice two-discer (English-friendly) paired with Zibahkhana (2007).

Giallo fans should definitely check out Luigi Cozzi's The killer must kill again.I think in recent years Cozzi has mainly worked at Dario Argento's Profondo Rosso store in Rome but Killer might be the only film by him worth watching anyway.

Mondo Macabro announce their first catalog Blu-ray release, Pasquale Festa Campanile's Check to the Queen (aka, The Slave), with a brand new scan from the OCN.

After owning it for years I recently watched BANDH DARWAZA off of the Bollywood Horror vol 1 set. Amazing movie. There's like a whole movie's worth of events in the first 17 minutes alone (a feeling which is further punctuated by the fact that the full credits roll 17 minutes in!) Wish the rest of the Bollywood Horror discs weren't out of print!

Discovered Zirneklis in September while looking over some Latvian animation from the Daukas studio and thought at the time that (The Spider) would fit right in with Mondo Macabro's catalogue.

Hi guys, I work for Mondo Macabro and can answer questions if you have any.

Wanted to give a rundown on how we are releasing Eckhart Schmidt's THE FAN.

We are doing it in two versions.

In February we'll put out a BD-only version in a red case, limited to only 500 copies, numbered, and sold exclusively through the MM website, $25.

The following month will see a widely distributed BD/DVD combo, which will itself be limited to either 1500 or 2000 copies, SRP $29.99.

The content of the two editions will be exactly the same, the only difference being the packaging.

If you are interested in this release and want to see more MM blu rays, I urge you to buy the direct-sale limited version. We will be doing this for all our BD releases, trying to offset the huge costs involved. Thanks! The pre-order for the LE will be Jan. 26th.

Oh, and yes, we will ship international.

Hey Jared, great to see you on the forum. Very much looking forward to Mondo's upcoming releases, and their continuing foray into Blu-Ray. Though I do hope those BD-only! weirdo's don't lead to films not up to snuff for HD no longer getting released.

If pre-orders open on the 26th, should we assume that's when the webstore'll go live too?

Jared, I wanted to know if there will be any special features for THE FAN BD release. I heard there was a theatrical trailer that was only available for certain Marketing Film titles (they handled the German DVD release a while back).

The release for Schimdt's DER FAN couldn't be more timely for genre fans. It's a horror/thriller hybrid that oozes 80s with a synth score & a color scheme to burn.
Désirée Nosbusch's chilling performance is truly unforgettable. Very pleased to hear about this release. Hope it will extend its cult reputation.

Yeah, I've seen some push back on another forum about the Greek movies being DVD only. It seems like some people are more interested in the format than the movie itself, doesn't it?

No, we will continue to do DVD only releases. Other labels like Vinegar Syndrome and Synapse have done very well with their lines of golden age porn and Nikkatsu erotica stuff only on DVD. Why not us too?

The store will open for the preorder only. That will be up for two weeks, then go down for a week while I prepare, package, and mail out orders. Soon after that is done, the store will have it's "Grand Opening" with the remaining stock of the red case FAN, our entire in-print back catalog, plus a few other goodies. Sometime in late February, I think.

Thanks Adam!

Hey roqued, I missed your question when you asked it! I'm not sure about the special features, no trailer is listed. I'll have to ask Pete about it. We do have a brand new interview with the director.

Yeah, it's definitely a movie whose time has come. We are very excited to try and help it find a broader audience!

Here's the pre-order for the red case edition. It's $25, plus shipping. It will ship out around the week of the 16th. There will be a combo pack coming out in March, for which there are pre-orders up at Amazon and Diabolik DVD for less than what we are charging for the red case edition. Just wanted to be upfront about that. If you can, please support MM direct and purchase the red case BD-only edition. Thanks!

For confirmation of the specs, the video is in 1080p, right? Are the audio tracks in lossless (PCM, Dolby TrueHD, or DTS HD-MA)?

Mondo have just announced they're including an exclusive booklet with the red case Ltd of The Fan. No mention of its content though. Any hints, Jared?

It will be an essay on the music of the film. Nothing major, but it's a nice piece and the booklet will look pretty. :)
