Criterion Research Project

#1 Post by charliekohller » Sun Jun 20, 2010 6:43 am

Hi, I'm a graduate student at the University of London and I'm working on a research project on boutique DVD labels. As part of that research I'm doing a survey on buying habits of Criterion collectors. I just have two questions. If any and everyone could respond that would be an amazing help to my project.

Question one: What are the last five Criterion discs (or boxsets) you have purchased?

Question two: How much prior knowledge had you for each title before you purchased it? Pick the answer which best fits.

A. I was very familiar with the title. I had already seen it either in the cinema or through some home viewing platform (i.e. earlier DVD, VHS, TV).

B. I had heard of the title, perhaps read about it, had been curious about it for some time, but had never seen it until purchasing the Criterion.

C. I only discovered the title once Criterion released it. It was based on the fact that they released it that I became aware of and interested in the title.

So for each title that you've listed could you put the corresponding letter from question 2 next to it.

Example:

Tokyo Story - A
Salo - B
Crumb - C

I think it will be very interesting to see the extent to which Criterion is giving audiences their first contact with many important films.

Thanks

I'll be contrarian and do ten, since there is a better A to C spread that way! The order is most recent first in case you just want to take the top five for your survey!

The Wages of Fear (Blu-Ray upgrade. Thanks Awesome Welles!) - A
Bigger Than Life (Blu-Ray upgrade. Thanks Aweseome Welles!) - A
Letters From Fontainhas: Three Films By Pedro Costa - B
Silent Ozu - B
The Exterminating Angel - A
Under The Volcano - C
Mala Noche - C
Sawdust And Tinsel - A
The Golden Age of Television - C
Roberto Rossellini's War Trilogy - B
