My gut reaction. Hope it's not any other film titled Confession. I Confess is a far stronger fit for the clue though.Mike_S wrote:The Confession by Costa-Gavras?

I Confess is Warners, fortunately. Would be lovely to see more stuff rescued from Hulu hell (and the Costa-Gavras would be near the top of my list).

Yeah, but come on, they're going to go to Warner for a third-tier Hitchcock title? Let's all will this Confession/State of Siege Blu-ray combo into being.

Also, two weeks ago Criterion posted on Instagram a picture of Peter Cowie interviewing Costa-Gavras.PfR73 wrote:Should be Costa-Gavras' The Confession. Criterion has it on Hulu.

re: The Confession
Criterion has been sitting on the rights for half a decade at least. I thought someone had posted on here that Criterion had lost the rights to the Costa Gavras titles because they couldn't be bothered to actually release them. Guess they came up with a new deal.

Re: Criterion Newsletter (Part 3)
While I'm not doubting that it's more likely the Costa-Gavras film, I wouldn't be at all surprised by Warner letting Criterion take one of their "third-tier" Hitchcock films and keeping bigger cash cows like Strangers on a Train and North by Northwest for themselves.Perkins Cobb wrote:Yeah, but come on, they're going to go to Warner for a third-tier Hitchcock title? Yeah, maybe it could be a double clue like the Spalding Gray drawing in February of 2012.

Re: Criterion Newsletter (Part 3)
The Costa-Gavras seems the most likely outcome to me, but if the Hitch is on the way I hope they pair it with Robert Lepage's Le Confessionnal, which has no proper US release that I know of.

Re: Criterion Newsletter (Part 3)
I would love to see I Confess added to the collection, but Criterion already owns the rights to Hitchcock's Young and Innocent, Sabotage, Downhill, and The Lodger. All of these films seem to be a better fit for the collection and a more reasonable guess for what will be coming out in the future.
Costa-Gavras' The Confession seems to be the only logical answer to this month's clue, and I wouldn't count on it being a "double" clue.

I Confess is one of my favorite Hitchcocks, so I'd love to see it released. I generally straight up dislike Costa Gavras, so I'd be surprised if it *wasn't* a clue for Confession.

Apparently Costa-Gavras and his production company recently did 4k restorations on the 4 titles that they own. Z; State of Siege; The Confession and Hanna K.

Fingers crossed for a Z upgrade. I normally don't double dip with Criterion releases, but I'd make an exception in this case!ianungstad wrote:Apparently Costa-Gavras and his production company recently did 4k restorations on the 4 titles that they own. Z; State of Siege; The Confession and Hanna K.

But as Captveg said, I've been writing and directing a film and all the other stuff that goes with that, alongside a 7 day a week job. No so much time to provide amusement and counterpoint here.
Glad to know I made an impression.

Okay, so does this mean that Orion Pictures is for sure back on the map, license-wise? I'd kill for Time After Time.

Most of Orion's catalog reverted to MGM, right? BABETTE'S FEAST was part of it, I believe.

Orion isn't an entity anymore. Most of their films are owned by MGM, which MBL is. TAT is owned by Warner.Ribs wrote:Okay, so does this mean that Orion Pictures is for sure back on the map, license-wise? I'd kill for Time After Time.
