Thanks, didn't know that; that's great news. But it seems that it may not be released for quite some time, maybe even 2016.vidussoni wrote:Twilight Time is releasing Cutter's Way.oh yeah wrote:Fantastic news, one of my all-time favorites. I never looked at the UK blu-ray, but the old Paramount disc had some pretty mediocre audio which I hope will be rectified here. It's funny how many of my biggest Criterion wishes have come true over the past couple years -- Badlands, Thief, A Man Escaped, Heaven's Gate, Safe, Nashville, Love Streams, Seconds, La Notte, Rosemary's Baby and now Don't Look Now. Now we just need Blow-Up, Cutter's Way, The Tenant, Beau travail, The Parallax View, plus some Rivette, Yang and Ferrara and I'll be a happy camper.

Re: Criterion Newsletter (Part 3)
OMG!!! Don't Look Now has been my #1 wish from the Paramount slaughter since the evisceration of their catalog releases started. One of my all time favorite movies. I guess we can now start guessing The Brood with DLN every month since we already have Scanners? That would be an excellent pairing.
I have to acknowledge as well Will Oldham's deeply personal list of favorites. One of the best "top 10" lists we've ever gotten. I always wonder why Coup de torchon isn't more revered, so I am especially happy to see it included, and his comments are moving in and of themselves. One of the few lists that's made me want to watch every single film mentioned in it.

This is exactly how I felt when I opened up the e-mail this afternoon. This one did not require much effort.eerik wrote:Easy one, even I guessed it.

That was my first thought, but I think it's 98% wishful thinking, unless we can figure out how the crazy get-up of the runner relates to the film.swo17 wrote:
Out 1?
EDIT: Odd Man Out it is. Yay. Another film already available in a good, English-friendly, cheaper BluRay. Yay.

Odd Man Out seems to fit, and seems (sadly) more likely to be slated for imminent release.

Definitely Odd Man Out... First one I've gotten myself from the clue without seeing the answer here in a long time.

Nice clue timing with the World Series just ending last night. The bay area Criterion hipster collector / SF Giants fans crossover must be over the moon today.

I haven't upgraded from my James Mason Optimum box, so I'm happy. Odd Man Out is such a great film that I'm happy it's getting a stateside release for rediscovery

Odd Man Out was listed in that old blurry drawing of upcoming 2012(?) releases, so it's been a long time coming.

As usual, I saw the picture and read the answer before the actual newsletter was even in my inbox.

It was already in my Hotmail account but it still hasn't hit my Gmail. This must be why I kept Hotmail around

Re: Criterion Newsletter (Part 3)
Does anyone know if a running list of previous newsletter clues is being maintained anywhere?
I'm wondering which ones haven't yet turned up in announcements over the past year or so. Aside from really recent clues like "Don't Look Now", the only one I can think of offhand is "Midnight Cowboy", but I'm guessing there must be others unexpectedly back-burnered. It would also be interesting to see the average lag time between a clue and the eventual announcement.

Re: Criterion Newsletter (Part 3)
My guess will be John Sayle's Eight Men Out. The number 5 on the player's back and the three figures, equals 8. And of course, the baseball theme.

I'm glad they are finally releasing Odd Man Out. It's one of those great films that ended up out of print during the DVD era heyday

Oh Criterion, you tried sports and it was adorable. No one in the office knew that no one would ever slide into home from first base?

Actually given the direction of home plate he's sliding in from third. The placement of the ump is odd though.krnash wrote:Oh Criterion, you tried sports and it was adorable. No one in the office knew that no one would ever slide into home from first base?

Not unheard of for the umpire to get out of the way when someone's sliding into home.

Re: Criterion Newsletter (Part 3)
When I first saw this I was convinced that the "5" referred to a five film box set and each weird little element was actually a clue to one of those five films. Needless to say nothing I thought of made the least bit of sense.
