Woman of the Year packaging looks pretty terrific. And I love the Tampopo disc with the egg showing through the center. That's awesome.

Agreed. They all look much better as full packages. Tampopo really pops, thanks to all the primary colors.
And just a heads up, regarding the Buena Vista pics, one of them is the Woman of the Year inner artwork, instead of the usual open case showing off the spine.

Rumble Fish is a little on the boring side, but I can't really see any packaging I take issue with. Woman of the Year and Tampopo are transcendent, on the shortlist of some of the best work Criterion has ever done.

Fixed! Admittedly I was half-asleep when I posted those. It's amazing that I didn't actually upload pictures of my cat instead.eastguy wrote: And just a heads up, regarding the Buena Vista pics, one of them is the Woman of the Year inner artwork, instead of the usual open case showing off the spine.

Except if it turns out to be better IRL, but I still don't like the Woman of the Year front cover.mfunk9786 wrote:Woman of the Year and Tampopo are transcendent, on the shortlist of some of the best work Criterion has ever done.

I hate it, myself. I can't stand most of the cartoony covers these days.tenia wrote:Except if it turns out to be better IRL, but I still don't like the Woman of the Year front cover.mfunk9786 wrote:Woman of the Year and Tampopo are transcendent, on the shortlist of some of the best work Criterion has ever done.

What is with these weird overly designed Tarkovsky covers? Like L'argent though

Kinda cool Stalker is #888 (though an Asian film woulda been cooler considering #8 is lucky in Asia).

They should've gone with Jean-Michel Folon's Stalker poster.

8 is the number of new supplements Criterion produced for the new edition, give or take sevenlacritfan wrote:Kinda cool Stalker is #888 (though an Asian film woulda been cooler considering #8 is lucky in Asia).

I just bought this poster, it's quite gorgeous (and really big). Some I know hate it, however (and that sentiment is held for Folon in general). I do think his style is more in the vein of Tati (surreal and folksy in a very french way), but that poster is downright mysterious.vidussoni wrote:They should've gone with Jean-Michel Folon's Stalker poster.

I'm glad to see Stalker, but not happy with the cover. Part of me wonders if they were sort of going with the crown of thorns (i.e. crucifixion) image from the Mosfilm cover, only with a hand, but that might be overthinking it.
Despite that, I am more than glad that they did not go with that poster or any other hand-drawn cover.
It seems to me the cover *should* have been the image that they used for the newsletter. Hell, even the original Mosfilm cover would have been ok...

Where did you find that? I hope it isn't real, it's a bit cheesy.

Wacky month for covers but I think I'm on board (aside from Sid & Nancy)
