People are treating these small cuts like the missing Magnificent Ambersons footage!

Like California Split, H.E.A.L.T.H.'s perennial absence from the home video market also apparently comes from a music rights problem, which is a shame, as it's really hysterical. It was buried so deep by Fox that there was never a trailer, which also befell O.C. & STIGGS

Diegetic, but worth pointing out: The animated video for Cheech & Chong's song "Basketball Jones" briefly appears on a TV set in circulating prints of the film (and some bootlegs); the audio of the clip is silenced on the DVD.whaleallright wrote:Was there any non-diegetic music cut out of the current video release, or is just (as I've heard) the music by the lounge singer at one of the casinos the lead characters visit? I've never brought myself to watch the DVD.
In lieu of any new filmed supplements w/Gould, Segal, Walsh etc., Criterion could perhaps reprint (or at least excerpt) Kim Morgan's fantastic three-part conversation with the trio published in the LA Review of Books for the film's 40th anniversary. (Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3)

This is great news, I love how much of a monopoly Criterion is gaining on Altman's films (especially the 70s ones).

"Set in a snowy post-apocalyptic netherworld, this surreal fever-dream from master director Robert Altman boasts more than thirty fans -- thirty-five if you count Jason P. in Lansing, Michigan."domino harvey wrote:Wait til we get Quintetoh yeah wrote:This is great news, I love how much of a monopoly Criterion is gaining on Altman's films (especially the 70s ones).

I hope that Criterion use the commentary track from the DVD, it's superb.

Re: Forthcoming: California Split
I myself have been wondering whether I should watch it on DVD with the cuts or stream it with the cropped aspect ratio. I assume the former would be best since that was at least supervised by Altman. at least until the Criterion comes out.domino harvey wrote:People are treating these small cuts like the missing Magnificent Ambersons footage!
