You've got me too excited, both for the Costas and for Straub/ Huillet. Seems the only easy access for the later though is Bach. releasing those docs though would indicate an interest from criterion. Than again they released (the perfect) Burden of Dreams with nothing else Herzog even in consideration. The taunting from Criterion really is too much.

You know, I thought of Burden of Dreams just after posting the above, but if any making-of is an exception to any 'standing alone' rule, it's that one, and Herzog was already pretty much completely represented in R1, so the issue for Criterion wasn't indifference but unavailability.

In other news, Sicilia! is available in the UK from New Wave films (bundled with Bach), and, even though this had become a running joke long before the company went under, Moses und Aron is apparently still forthcoming from New Yorker.

It may be all about process, but when you surrender to that, Balibar going over the same phrase dozens of times becomes fascinating. And Costa makes every composition exquisite, which is good news, as you tend to be stuck with them for quite some time.
Doesn't Balibar do a languid 'cover version' of Johnny Guitar's title song at one point during the film? Perhaps Criterion could be sneaky and release it together with the Nicholas Ray film! [/wishful thinking]

The Night of the Hunter poster is excellent; Brute Force is a bit over the top for my liking.

Criterion return for a fourth year at ATP, which this year is co-curated by Portishead and features the return of Jeff Mangum (Neutral Milk Hotel). It's taking place in Asbury Park, NJ this September, info here.

Not seeing them listed on Ticketmaster or SeeTickets - where will they be sold?

I love In the Aeroplane Over the Sea, but holy shit, Portishead's second American concert date since 1998! If I wasn't a Coachella and Sasquatch left coaster, I'd be all over this.

I'm lucky enough to only really be interested in the Mangum concert, so glad it's being sold separately.

EDIT: Oh, and performed separately! Interesting, I hadn't realized that he was doing two shows. The fact that it's Monday night is a bummer, but that's a once in a lifetime chance. If only I can figure out where tickets are going on sale.

Has anyone here ever used seetickets.com, and if so, how is it? My instinct is just to go with Ticketmaster, because of familiarity and lack of awareness of the capacity of seetickets' server. But any money I don't have to give to those weasels is money well spent.

While I don't have the final line-up yet, it sounds like it will be posted soon. Any predictions as to what will be playing? Gojira?

Leningrad Cowboys Go America would also make sense. Ryan, your post implies that you have at least a partial list. Any surprises in store that you have knowledge of?

So the possible (but not guaranteed) Criterion inductees are:

Quadrophenia
Being John Malkovich
Putney Swope
Deconstructing Dad

I'm guessing I'm the only one that thinks it's super-awesome that I could go to a screening of Putney Swope and then go to a screening of The Rock a couple hours later, and then stay for The Phantom Carriage.
