Re: Forthcoming: Tiny Furniture
Where's the movie for fat losers like me who are still working through to get their bachelor's at 30? This seems to be a bit more the reality compared to these movies about hipsters who graduate from college at 22 with nothing to do but move back home with their upper middle class parents.

Rumor has it that for every copy sold, Criterion is giving $2 to help build organic Alfalfa fields in Brooklyn.

Judd Apatow would like to take that idea from you. Seth Rogen stars.oldsheperd wrote:Where's the movie for fat losers like me who are still working through to get their bachelor's at 30? Not being American I understand very little of what any of you are saying, but nonetheless I am finding this thread very entertaining.

Re: Forthcoming: Tiny Furniture
As long as Seth Rogen ends up with a woman who doesn't look like his typical love interests and he ends up getting a decent, steady job, I'm there.*CG* wrote:Judd Apatow would like to take that idea from you. I am American, but I'm not quite sure what's going on! (I do find the thread entertaining, though.) Just watched the trailer, and it looks like a dime-a-dozen hipster indie film, so I've really no interest in seeing it, but can it really be worse than Border Radio or Solo con tu pareja?stephenp wrote:Not being American I understand very little of what any of you are saying, but nonetheless I am finding this thread very entertaining.

To be fair films like Tiny Furniture helped me appreciate Brutalism; they have an educational value.

Take a shot whenever something cutesy fails. You'll be drunk in ten minutes, dead in forty.

More like take a shot every time the film allegedly offers an "unflattering" portrayal with affectated childishness, wind up in a coma

Re: Forthcoming: Tiny Furniture
shit. for a minute I thought i just dreamt this was happening last night. but it's all so terribly real.
it almost feels like Criterion's "Jump the shark" moment...even though I hate that term as much as this movie. Even Border Radio had minor cultural relevance due to the Flesh Eaters and the Blasters. Hopscotch is nothing special, but it's not a bad movie. This is honestly the first time I can't find one iota of any redeeming value that justifies its existence, let alone a spine number. i just know every time i see it on a shelf it's going to piss me off.

Re: Forthcoming: Tiny Furniture
I would say it's more comparable to the Bays in the collection more than anything else as it doesn't even offer cultural value, but even those have a commercial pull to them which somewhat justifies them. This doesn't have a strong financial pull as it grossed, according to Box Office Mojo, only around $300K. Maybe Criterion's hoping the HBO show will increase Dunham's popularity and they can cash in on its success.

Something along the lines of jpeg attachments of burning furniture would get the point across.
