Whoever did it, it was genuinely unsettling.JamesF wrote:I can't tell if this is a parody or not.

I thought this was an incredibly terrible Lynch impersonation until I realized it was Lynch.

Re: David Lynch
There's usually one little thing that Lynch does that his imitators wouldn't think of; in this short, it's the legless man periodically refraining from hammering the earth to wipe the dirt from his coat. I'm not saying the clip is particularly inspired, but that little touch of normal banality is what makes Lynch's weirdness unique.rwaits wrote:I thought this was an incredibly terrible Lynch impersonation until I realized it was Lynch.

Re: David Lynch
It's funny, with all the effort that thousands of film students have put into emulating Lynch over the last three decades, literally no one can do what he does even close to as effectively. What a neat, uneasy little short.

You are right of course, Lynch hit his artistic peak between '84 - '92.

To my taste, Lost Highway and Mulholland Drive are far superior to Blue Velvet and Wild At Heart.oneshotmonkey wrote:You are right of course, Lynch hit his artistic peak between '84 - '92.

David Lynch remixes Zola Jesus. Intriguingly, her label, Sacred Bones, will reissue to "deluxe vinyl" the soundtrack to Eraserhead later this year.

Re: David Lynch
I think DUNE works brilliantly as a formal exercise in pure exposition.
I don't recall a single attempt to build character, empathy or naturalism at all in the movie. Most of the time people just state who they are, what their motive is and how it contributes to the story. I think it works and makes sense in and of itself.
A better edit could improve DUNE but I think a lot of criticism for the movie lays in the deliberate stylistic choices.

Re: David Lynch
Dune works for me; probably because I really liked the Frank Herbert novel and that allowed me to enjoy all of Lynch's colourful and wild excesses in the movie version.

I missed this and it sounds intriguing but it seems the account it was attached to is no longer active. Any idea what it was actually called so I can try to search for it elsewhere?John Cope wrote:Lynch's 1987 document on the Surrealists who influenced him.

'David Lynch's Ruth Roses & Revolver'. It was made for the BBC's Arena program back in the '80s.Rsdio wrote:I missed this and it sounds intriguing but it seems the account it was attached to is no longer active. Re: David Lynch
Thanks, surprised I've never seen it come up anywhere before as it sounds like a bit of a goldmine. Shame it's gone from Youtube but hopefully it'll reappear at some stage.

Re: David Lynch
The FWWM BD artwork and package looks fab - not surprised though, as Japan was the only country where the film made profits in 1992.

On Aug. 2, Lynch will step into his new role as a master of ceremonies, hosting a concert from Chrysta Bell, whose 2011 debut CD the filmmaker-musician produced.

Re: David Lynch
Mark Richardson has an interesting review of the reissued Eraserhead soundtrack. Stars of the Lid, Throbbing Gristle, Nurse With Wound, and Eno are mentioned. It's ridiculous that they rated it, though.
