Re: 2010 BFI release summary
So there is an officially designated space for rhapsodising over Bfi's exemplary and somewhat pedagogical(Shadows of Progress) and pioneering year( Flipside). Honourable mention should of course go to the relatively obscure Ozu's included as extras alongside the more canonized films!.

Re: 2010 BFI release summary
I'd certainly like to see the BFI, Second Run and the MOC celebrated with voting just as we do with the CC...but then I purchased more from these labels (individually) than from the CC.
The Bfi's blu plicy is probably the most progressive of the niche labels. Hat tipped.

Colin have you picked up Misinformation? If so, any thoughts? I ask because I found your musings on The Joy of Sex Education set last year to be very enjoyable and informative...

Re: 2010 BFI release summary
The blu releases of Institute Benjamenta, Edge of the World, and The Innocents are enough for me to declare the BFI my favorite label of the year. And, with the forthcoming release of Alice and my ever-increasing list of to-watch titles, it looks to be staying my favorite for some time.

Re: 2010 BFI release summary
Echo the sentiments for BFI as publisher of the year.
Since this has now become a safe zone free from the ire of Criterion tankist fundamentalists on the wrap-up thread. I will reiterate my faves
1.Shadows of Progress
2.Institute Benjamenta
3.Edge of the World
4. Secrets of Nature.
5. Bronco Bullfrog
Special Commendations - The Ozu reissue programme ,Tintins and Tati
And next year looks equally scrumptious with more Ozu Ponting and hopefully more docos of similar quality including more Krish et al

Re: 2010 BFI release summary
My list is going to make for boring reading since it'll be the usual suspects, i.e.
the Ozu releases, The Innocents and Les Vacances de M Hulot Blu's
Looking forward to Alice next year!

Re: 2010 BFI release summary
Sadly not, but I am planning to pick it up soon. The COI sets aren't on my above list either only because I have not managed to open any of them yet, though all four volumes are on my to watch pile taunting me! I am planning/hoping to at least get around to doing another film by film run through one BFI set at some point during this next year.carax09 wrote:Colin have you picked up Misinformation? I can't wait for Alice either! I've spent the last couple of days having a Svankmajer Christmas, digging out my taped copy of Faust. I also finally got around to ordering and receiving the Zeitgeist disc of Lunacy, and am saving a first viewing for the New Year! Hopefully some distributor may be considering Surviving Life for a release (Hint, Hint!)Finch wrote:Looking forward to Alice next year!
