Not to change the subject but why the hell are there German, Australian, British, and Swedish blu-rays of this but no U.S. blu? This is a major American film.

Thanks, but I don't want to have to pay $28 or whatever to upgrade this, especially with opinion sharply divided about how it looks in motion. The UK one would be cheaper but still... I just don't understand why there are releases in so many countries but not the U.S. I know this happens, but this is The Fucking Man Who Shot Liberty Valance.

It's completely fine and commenting on the basis of screens alone is not allowing for a fair assessment. And this is a movie I remember very well from 35mm prints.
This is reassuring to hear, and I trust your opinion. I will hold off a little longer for a US release, though. My hope is that the delay means Criterion will be releasing it.

Paramount via Warner is releasing Billy Wilder's "Stalag 17" October 8th

I finally watched this a few days ago, after the CE DVD sat on my shelf for 7(!) years.
I'll say that the commentary was pretty terrible... lots of gaps, sudden laughs, and very little information.

So is the Warner deal just for the U.S. then?

I don't know if this is mentioned here, but Paramount's September slate for some oversea territories (France and Japan) includes American Gigolo, El Dorado (1966), Harold and Maude, Hatari!, Kiss the Girls, Virtuosity, Shane, War and Peace, and Samson and Delilah (1949), with the last one Japan-exclusive for now.

It may include Canada and Mexico, but it's definitely for North America only.

Has anyone suffered problems on the Star Trek:TMP Blu? About 87 minutes into the film the audio goes out of sync for about a minute on the copy I bought yesterday.

I hope Hatari comes out better than it did in the European and Japanese blu ray releases. I really love that movie, and I want to see it at its best, for once.

I Love Lucy and The Andy Griffith Show were listed on Amazon and then recently pulled. I hope it's because they're reconsidering the price, as there's no reason these seasons should have to be on 6 blu-rays for $130 SRP.

I wonder if this will have the new special features Cameron Crowe talked about having done for such a release awhile back.

This release has been moved to 5/13/14

----

Digital Bits is also reporting the following:

Chicken Run (2000) / Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit (2005) / Flushed Away (2006) - 5/13/14 (DreamWorks Animation catalog)
The Road to El Dorado (2000) / Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas (2003) / Joseph: King of Dreams (2000) - 5/13/14 (DreamWorks Animation catalog)

Weird that they'd throw Joseph: King of Dreams in with Road to El Dorado / Sinbad instead of doing a double feature with Prince of Egypt.

EDIT: Appears Digital Bits was wrong here as amazon.com has these triple features listed as $15 DVDs.

Beaver's El Dorado review cites considerable edge enhancement. Anyone have the European release and can comment on whether that transfer had similar issues?
