E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial blu-ray coming in October. From what it seems, it only includes the original 1982 version, not the tinkered, walkie talkies 2002 one.

Re: Universal Catalog Titles on Blu
He did an interview for Entertainment Weekly where he said he regretted doing the 2002 version so I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't on there.

Re: Universal Catalog Titles on Blu
I'm in the boat that wouldn't have minded some of the digital alterations from the 2002 version be carried over to the Blu-ray. The "walkie talkie" nonsense was a major mistake, but I quite liked the subtle facial enhancements of the title character and, especially, the shot showing the alien being chased by the scientists (once you realize that the alien in the original shot was just a Lowell Omni light with a red gel being pulled on a dolly, the suspension of disbelief takes a hit!). All the same, as long as Dee Wallace returns to complaining that her eldest son's Halloween costume makes him look like a "terrorist", I'll be happy.dx23 wrote:E.T. Re: Universal Catalog Titles on Blu
Although the 2002 version being gone might not be a big loss, I'm assuming the altered and extra scenes will be in the deleted scenes menu. But one extra I liked on the DVD was the live John Williams score with the 2002 version. I'm assuming that will not be part of the Blu-ray.

Re: Universal Catalog Titles on Blu
Just for the record I'll put what he said, from the article found here:
EW wrote: EW: George famously tinkers with his movies after the fact. But you've said that you regret changing E.T. for the 2002 rerelease and would never change another of your movies.
Spielberg: George goes by his playbook, and I go by mine. I did alter E.T., and I do regret making those alterations. When the movie comes out on Blu-ray, either we will package both versions for the same price — nobody has to pay any more money for the rejiggered version — or we will just bite the bullet and come out with the 1982 version.

Looks like the Hitchcock set will be released in the first week of September indeed. Vertigo and The Bird steelbooks have been scheduled for 5th September in the Nordics.

According to Italian site tempiodelvideo.com, Universal will release Sam Wood's For Whom the Bell Tolls (1943) sometime later this year, a title that wasn't on the leaked schedule. Release date is not specified but it is "restored" and available in digibook packaging. Special features include a documentary on "the restoration" of the film and more.

Book packaging has gone so well for Hitchcock sets in the past, so I can't imagine how this could go wrong!

Re: Universal Catalog Titles on Blu
Looks very handsome, but, as mfunk says, the packaging may be perilous for the discs. Plus, this looks like one of those box sets (like that great De Oliveira one) that takes up way more shelf space due to its quirky design than the equivalent in single DVD cases would.

Uh, and I was really psyched for this. The smaller the packaging, the better.

I can already feel my future annoyance with that packaging. Feel like watching Rear Window? Hang on a moment while I dismantle my Hitchcock shrine.

Re: Universal Catalog Titles on Blu
From the look of Rear Window and Vertigo, those seem to be the same supplements as the 2-Disc DVDs, right? (except for the 100-year stuff...)
Will Psycho look any different than what's already out? I'd hope not.

The consumers this packaging appeals to would never notice if the films were locked within one of the interior cases and no key included
