There is a dedicated Disney fan base that buy most anything. It's sports team esque.

I don't remember ever seeing Monkeys, Go Home! but can guarantee I'd rather watch that any day than most of the more recent trash, for example something like Chicken Little, a movie that shows just how low the quality had ebbed at Disney in the Michael Eisner era, before they were smart enough to buy Pixar—and that's not even including the terrible low-budget direct-to-video sequels, midquels, etc. cranked out to make an easy profit from those who will buy anything and see the brand as a mark of quality and family values. Compared to that stuff, I'd definitely be excited for the older, live-action one about monkeys forced to do farm labor or whatever.

No kidding. If you think Leonard Maltin is bad, just go to the theme park and walk by the pin collector booths. Then there's endless trade-shows, group meetings, etc. Anything with Disney branding is going to sell. Put Mickey Mouse on it and there will be people lining up and trampling each other to get it. I have a relative who collects stupid Disney car accessories, and its just absurd how Disney panders to/scams these people. Its like coin collecting from hell - "Gotta get the 2011 graduation cap Mickey with branding on the backside from Disney: Land, World, Sea, Tokyo, Paris, Cruise....."

Thankfully we all just have healthy collecting issues at this forum....

This is a little like if Criterion had an "exclusive" thing you had to pay to join to access select titles and the offerings were Maidstone, Jellyfish Eyes, Border Radio, and Chasing Amy.

The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes (1969), the first film in the Dexter Riley series, was one of their first BD exclusives in 2014. They have not yet released the 2nd film Now You See Him, Now You Don't (1972) , but I imagine it's inevitable.

These three along with the earlier Russell Disney film The Horse in the Gray Flannel Suit (1968) got a new DVD collection shortly before Computer's BD in 2012, so the US masters for all four have been ready since at least then.

Although not technically a "Dexter Riley" film, 1971's The Barefoot Executive should certainly be considered part of the same Disney live action comedy series.

wow flashback, this was my next door neighbors favorite film for a while, we must have watched it twenty times together at least. This one tempts me, except that I dvred it a few years back and found it equal parts charming, painful and nostalgic.

You'd think they'd throw all three on a two-disc set for $20 and make a lot more money overall by throwing it at 90s Kids

Do these Saludos Amigos, Three Caballeros, Melody Time, and Make Mine Music Blu-rays even exist? I've found cover art, but nothing else anywhere. Nothing on e-bay or other forums other than rumors and speculations.

This club must be very exclusive.

Those do not exist. That art is fan made from when an announcement seemed imminent, but it never came to fruition.

Don't know where this could lead to but Whoopi Goldberg, who was honored this past weekend by Disney at their D23 Expo, asked publicly for them to release Song of the South on Blu-ray/DVD. I always thought that Disney should have released this as part of their Treasures collection with disclaimers by Goldberg and Leonard Maltin about the content. Disney could also license it to Criterion or Kino and let them take some of the heat. To me it has always seem weird that Disney would have Song of the South theme and characters prominently on Splash Mountain, arguably one of the top attractions of the park in Florida, yet not release the movie at all. They could even release it as part of their Disney Movie Club is they want.

I agree with Goldberg. Disney hiding it in it's vault only seems, in my mind to further the notion they want to pretend it doesn't exist. The film should be released with critical commentary and so forth. The more you try and hide shit the worse it gets.

Honey, I Shrunk the Kids and Honey, I Blew Up the Kid out now as DMC exclusives. Disney once again misses some serious nostalgia wave bux to dump these in a subscription-only model

Maybe they're trying to lure Rick Moranis out of retirement by stiffing him on royalties.

He actually did come out of retirement. For one night only. This month even.

He's also been talking to Mel Brooks about a Spaceballs sequel.

just so long as Lena Dunham plays Dark Helmet's granddaughter as a Kylo Ren knockoff, I'm on board with a Spaceballs sequel. ;)

Three caballeros and Saludos amigos were released on Blu-ray as a set at the end of January. But only as a Disney movie club exclusive.

They’ve also issued exclusives of mighty joe young, rocket man, and both freaky Friday films.
