Could you imagine watching this under any circumstances

A lot of those DC animated features get better reviews than the live actions films actually. I've never watched one but I know they've been praised to such a degree that the praise exudes from every possible orifice. We can certainly laugh all we want but they make bank for DC and are incredibly cost effective. As such they're even willing to make them R rated and put them into theaters.

That one based on The Killing Joke was god-awful, but most of that can be based on the padding I think. I've only seen a handful of these animated "films" but they mostly make me long for the Batman Animated Series.

Oh man - the entire time I was putting that post together and finding an acceptably sized Blu-ray cover etc etc - I thought it was a live action direct to video sequel. Not once did it occur to me it could be animated.

It looks like a bootleg cover for a Fifty Shades parody.

Not that the first, and thus far, only, Fifty Shades movie I saw was terribly explicit (and I don't expect the sequels are/will be, either), but there is something really creepy about using an apparently tame modern PG-13/12 cert romantic comedy, which is itself a sequel to a modern PG/PG cert romantic comedy, to market a modern R/18 cert "erotic" thriller. If we were talking 70s PG movies, okay, because those are often 15/18 cert level anyway, but the first My Big Fat Greek Wedding was a slightly naughty family comedy, and despite the, probably reactionary, PG-13 rating, I've not seen much that leads me to believe the sequel was any more adult.

The irony is that of the (apparently six) Blu-rays released with movie cash to see Fifty Shades Darker, two of the films were PG-13, but another two were actually given modern PG ratings: Pride & Prejudice (2005) and Leap Year (2009). Why this happens is beyond me, as there are plenty of R-rated Romance Blu-rays Universal has released, like Anna Karenina (2012) and About Time (2014), for example.

But yes, all of these slipcovers tend to be terrible.

That time Kathy Bates stuck James Caan's foot in a typewriter. His ankle is also disproportionately skinny compared to his foot.

That Misery cover is hypnotically bad - almost Dali-esque in it's surrealistic placement of objects and human anatomy.

The cover seems to be based on this wonderfully bizarre piece of movie prop memorabilia. The real thing is kind of awesome, but the cover is just terribly misguided.

What an awful time to think you can advertise these movies (1) this way (2).

That’s so amazing that I’d think it was fake if the movies themselves weren’t too randomly chosen to be parody.

The oddest thing about it to me is that it seems someone colored Rattle's gray hair blond for some bizarre reason. A man's hair color doesn't usually change throughout his lifetime from dark brown to gray to blond, but I guess someone thought it would help move product?

Do you think people that have devoted their lives and craft to making those types of films are happy?

That cover is a huge improvement on the official cover/poster (according to the distributor):

Maybe it is an attempt to subconsciously make the antagonist more relatable to human viewers.
