This has gone over about as well as you'd expect to have with critics. Even outside this site I've seen people from varying parts of the left express disgust over it. The only people who seem to be embracing it are the Trump people who see it as, and I quote "A send up to the SJWs.".

This isn't even a new idea, as the MTV show Faking It already depicted a high school world where the formerly oppressed were now the popular, leading to the nobody protagonists pretending to be lesbians to ascend socially

This seems like kind of obvious meat for a premise, regardless of issues of left and right. Perhaps fascinating in theory, but impossible to pull off with the right amount of sensitivity in practice because the people you depend on to pull this off (actors, directors, editors) aren't on the same train of thought as you.

The first 21 Jump Street film also used this idea of reversing the traditional high school social hierarchy and was generally successful with the conceit. I watched this "Heathers" pilot on-demand and it's fucking awful and as offensive as these articles indicate. Paramount should be embarrassed.

Funny thing is that Viacom has shown they can be embarrassing swinging the other way too. MTV renaming their statue "Moon Person", a tribute to all those pioneering women who walked on the lunar surface.

It is not high school based, but we may be missing the ne plus ultra of this: John Travolta being racially oppressed in White Man's Burden!
