You're right about the UK/US thing, so that just cancels out the possibility of Tokyo Drifter. I suppose Criterion UK may eventually port it over, but I'm not holding my breath.

Was wondering myself whether they might put another Suzuki title in the next Nikkatsu Diamond Guys volume, but they didn't for the second one. I must admit, the inclusion of Voice Without a Shadow was the main reason I bought the first one.

Anyway, the other titles I mentioned would be great - especially Pistol Opera!

Well, Criterion still has Story of a Prostitute, Fighting Elegy, and Gate of Hell in print, despite not being on BD, so they wouldn't be coming either.

I imagine Arrow is well aware that the Suzuki was the most exciting part of the first Nikkatsu set and will keep similar titles in their back pockets going forward for similar releases of bundles of seriously obscure stuff. They don't want to make it on every volume because they don't want it to become expected, I think, but I'd assume they definitely would hope to have more going forward.

I am desperately hoping Arrow (and/or Criterion) will release a re-mastering of Seijun Suzuki's Taisho Trilogy, if for no other reason than the stunning Zigeunerweisen.

Arrow UK stock update. (They listened to complaints about the bar lengths!) Note that Phenomena is already 40% sold out.

Does anyone remember the size of the print run for Deep Red? Looking back at old posts, it appears that that one sold out within about a month of being 75% sold out.

It appears that it was a Limited Run of 3000, if you are talking about the 4K remastered Limited Edition of Profondo Rosso.

I do find though that Dario Argento and Mario Bava have a great following, so that might've been the reason it sold so quickly.

Right, that's the best thing I can think to compare to, though Phenomena has a print run of 5,000. I think I'll be safe to wait until the likely sale next month to preorder it.

I mean, what items have sold out before they got to a sale? Nothing's really coming to mind, but I'm sure it's happened. Dekalog still isn't listed, which is incredibly weird to me as well.

(Would we be better just to have a "The Arrow Store" thread rather than using this one?)

The Borowczyk and Hellraiser boxes and the two-disc Videodrome either sold out before release date or only fractionally after.

I presume their stock updates refer to distributor/wholesale stock, pretty high maintenance to track stock held in various retailers and their shop will be distinct from their distributor chain.

There's precedent for this, the Price box was OOP for a couple months but still available in the Arrow store

Bit of a tangent:
Does anybody know whether there is there any likelihood that any more of the Criterion Suzukis will get upgraded in the foreseeable future?

There's an HD transfer of Youth of the Beast out there, since MoC released their Blu-ray.

What are the chances in acquiring Near Dark (1987)? Not sure has this been released on Blu before but now would be a great time to do so and really can't think of another label releasing it.

Absolutely zero. StudioCanal owns Near Dark.

And I have an Optimum (now StudioCanal) Blu-ray sitting on my shelves.

If the situation with the rights is clear now, it would be nice that Arrow Films upgrade these VHS transfers with HD ones:

Can finally replace that horrendous cover! Now they just need to reissue Opera and Bird with the Crystal Plumage.

Fukasaku's Doberman Cop seems the most likely suggestion so far.

Though I recognize your suggestion wasn't meant seriously, seems worth noting Fabulous is putting this out in April in the UK.

Sure thing, or perhaps Sympathy for the Underdog as inadvertently leaked before (when Cops vs Thugs was announced). Either way, quite likely to be another Fukasaku!

As for Filho's Aquarius, I'm slightly surprised it's being released as Arrow Academy but also very happy if that is the case. I wonder if that'll also going happen for their upcoming release of Koreeda's After the Storm, and maybe other contemporary acquisitions? Presumably it's a decision made to boost sales of those titles, but it's a win-win if it means we get extras/booklets/reversible artwork.
