Sonic the Hedgehog (Jeff Fowler, 2020)
Sonic The Hedgehog. It could very well be the trailer, but I think this looks good. People are bitching about the design of the character but I think they got it good.

Re: Trailers for Upcoming Films
The action looks surprisingly coherent, but other than that I’m not sold. I can’t figure out what Carrey’s aiming at.

Scene-chewery, which a character like his desperately needs for a movie like this. If the scene with Neal McDonough is any indication of his performance, then it could be a decent performance.

I mean... I can't imagine those glimpses and the overall tone formed into anything I would call a good film.

Can't think of any actors more I'll suited for that role. But do we really need a live action Sonic movie?

Re: Trailers for Upcoming Films
This is the first time in a long, long, long time where it looks like Jim Carrey is actually called upon to be funny in his In Living Color fashion. Some of you are seriously knocking him here? He’s the only thing present of any note. I mean, sure, I can’t believe I’m any modicum of optimistic about a Sonic the Hedgehog movie, but here we areflyonthewall2983 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 30, 2019 9:35 amScene-chewery, which a character like his desperately needs for a movie like this. If you're familiar at any level with Sonic the Hedgehog and his existence, particularly his online presence for the last say, fifteen years, this is exactly the kind of movie that's to be expected.

This needs to be zany, outrageous, and bad "in a good way." The trailer makes it seem like the movie could be that. Or it could just be a chore to sit through.
It's a fine line between amusing and insufferable.

Re: Trailers for Upcoming Films
I just don't see him doing anything worth getting excited about in this trailer - he looks out-of-place interacting with the quill, his timing in the scene with McDonough is poor (could be an editing issue, admittedly), and - I can't believe I'm saying this - he's not off-the-wall enough for the part, at least based on what's shown here. I want *more* scene chewing.domino harvey wrote: ↑Tue Apr 30, 2019 10:41 amThis is the first time in a long, long, long time where it looks like Jim Carrey is actually called upon to be funny in his In Living Color fashion. Has he been spending most of his life living in a gangsta's paradise?

I guess Coolio's cooled down a lot or maybe he just doesn't like Weird Al.
As for the movie, I'd rather they go the route of the comics or the old show though that would mean going completely animated which we're afraid of for some reason. Still, I'm down for a silly Carrey performance so put me down as slightly less excited for this compared to the Pokemon noir.

Coolio is reduced to playing Festival of the Juggalos, I am sure he likes whatever money he can get more than any nascent cred he may have once possessed

I didn't mean Carey is or will be bad here, just that Dr. Eggman needed someone more gruff a la Josh Brolin than Carey. Irregardless that Sonic looks pretty hideous and I'm no fan so count me out

Why would you want someone named Dr. Eggman to be gruff?

You get a glimpse of Carrey as closer to that design at the very end of the trailer.

I think Carrey doing his 90s schtick in a movie aiming for 90s nostalgia is pretty cool.

Re the character design, it is unfathomable to me that a major studio could produce something so inept.
I still hold out hope that they're trolling us and that they'll reveal a proper, competently done character design at the last minute.

I just want Jaleel White’s Saturday morning Sonic to pop in and say “That’s no good.

Re: Sonic the Hedgehog (Jeff Fowler, 2019)
I will readily admit I am swept up in the 90's-ness of it all (especially for the fact it took me and my brother 3 years to beat Sonic Spinball) but I feel like this could have been done way worse and it was a surprise to me that this looks at least very competent in what it set out to do.
I do think the rings on the Paramount logo are pretty tacky but then again so are some of the films they have put out lately.

There has never been -- nor will there ever be -- a good movie based on a video game.
