Lush photography/colour, and the coastal Italian locations are lovely. The story tells of the travails of an Italian dynamite fisherman, played by Yves Montand. Pontecorvo makes a political treatise of it, of course - the struggles of a worker to support his family in trying times - but there's a surprisingly romantic element to it. It really is charming.

Shot in color Superscope (2.00:1 ratio). The Milestone/Image Entertainment from 2003 is anamorphic, apparently. Jonathan Demme and Dustin Hoffman love this film and helped to finance the restoration. It sounds like it could be a great film and as I am a fan of Pontecorvo and Yves, I'll take a chance on it.

Thanks for highlighting this film, Cinephrenic! :D
