Dona Flor and Her Two Husbands (Barreto, 1976)

Just released by New Yorker recently. Anyone seen this? Going to rent it off Netflix and I like Sonia Braga. I have a vague recollection of the Jeff Bridges/Sally Field/ James Caan remake.

Do yourself a favor and let it stay vague.

The original is diverting but I wouldn't say it's exactly the finest in Brazilian cinema. Nevertheless, it was the most commercially successful film in the country's history. This had a lot to do with why Hollywood "remade" it -- no surprise there.
