Re: Passages
Robert Day is also in the Criterion collection, having directed three of the four films in the Monsters and Madmen box (Grip of the Strangler aka The Haunted Strangler, Corridors of Blood and First Man Into Space). In terms of other films, he co-directed (with Basil Dearden) The Green Man starring Alistair Sims, though he's probably most famous for his Hammer Film She and his comedy films starring Peter Sellers (Two-Way Stretch) and Tony Hancock (The Rebel, which there doesn't appear to be any trailer for around, but there is some silent premiere newsreel footage!)BrianInAtlanta wrote:Robert Day

I can't find any news items yet, but quite a few of my friends who knew him personally are saying that Radley Metzger has died.
And he was 88, so not a huge surprise.

Shame. The Lickerish Quartet was the first older erotic film I had ever seen - I still have a soft spot for its silly self-seriousness.MichaelB wrote:I can't find any news items yet, but quite a few of my friends who knew him personally are saying that Radley Metzger has died.

Re: Passages
And The Image is still one of the most eye-poppingly explicit S&M films ever made! (or at least up there with The Story of O) Even if as this video suggests perhaps not truly within that world by its close!sir_luke wrote:Shame. Re: Passages
Same here. It's the first "adult" film I went to just a few days after reaching the legal age for it (21) while in school in Cleveland, Ohio. When I learned of the Arrow Blu-ray release, I jumped on it for exactly that sentimental reason. Having only seen it that one time, I assumed I wouldn't recognize much, if anything, about the film, but I was amazed at the number of scenes that were, in fact, familiar as they unfolded. Soft spot, indeed!sir_luke wrote:Shame. Really sorry to see that.
He talked about her for years and when he finally started having her actually appear on the show, she was exactly how I had pictured her.

The shot that forms the basis for the poster for Quiz Show is, in my opinion, an all-time great (and that isn't even the best movie he shot about Broadcasting!)

Didn't realize he was ill.
So pivotal to the greatness of Dave's show. The showbiz stories stuff was always primo but I also liked things like his part in the classic World Series of Dice sketch, where he calmly shrugged his shoulders and shot Leonard Washington in the leg to take his bankroll from him.
