I'm juiced for the trailer, which should be soon.

You could set a watch to Brolin's.

If any director can do the werewolf genre justice, it's P.T. Anderson.
P.S. In determining whether "werewolf" can in fact be called a genre, I stumbled upon this wonderful site.

You're burying the lede: Thomas Pynchon has a cameo in this film.

I haven't really clicked with her music yet - I've given Ys and Have One on Me plenty of tries, and they don't come off as the start-to-finish masterpieces some make them out to be - but I'm still interested to see how she does in this film. I think there's a few musical artists who've surprised me as film actors, even when their music leaves me cold.swo17 wrote:Hopefully in song.

That was laugh out loud funny and yet there might be something to that. She basically serves as a narrator rather than a singer in her own songs, and her "off kilter in Wonderland" style mostly fits the vibe of Punch-Drunk Love. I imagine her narration will have a creakily melodic timbre and sound a bit like Tangina from Poltergeist anyway, so why not put a nylon-string guitar behind her words to fit the 70s vibe?swo17 wrote:Hopefully in song.

I'm throwing five bucks down that it'll be his voice.

Looks fantastic. I'm in the middle of the book right now, and the images of all the characters just changed in my mind. That poster is going to end up on my wall. I'm glad they're using they're playing with the great design scheme from the book.mfunk9786 wrote:Trailer (yes, narrated by Joanna Newsom)

If I end up loving the film, yeah, there's no keeping me away from that poster.

Looks insanely fun to me. I mean, Joanna Newsom's narration is a great addition so far and I love the choice of clips they used hence why it looks so fun to me.

Insanely fun, indeed. I can't wait for the first round of reviews (of course reading reviews are always risking spoilers).

Re: Inherent Vice (Paul Thomas Anderson, 2014)
Although Anderson says that AIRPLANE and TOP SECRET were the films that inspired him on this one, I'm getting more of a FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS and THE BIG LEBOWSKI vibe from the trailer...which is fine by me. Phoenix's bit of business with the napkins in the diner scene (as Brolin rants about the pancakes in bad Spanish?) seems worth the price of a ticket on its own.

The book brought THE BIG LEBOWSKI to mind on more than one occasion, so I wouldn't be surprised if the film gets compared to it a lot too. Loved the trailer, and it makes me want to go right back to the book!

Re: Inherent Vice (Paul Thomas Anderson, 2014)
Is there another book of Pynchon's close to the style of Inherent Vice that I can read so I can gauge what this might be?

Japanese is very bad Spanish indeed.PfR73 wrote:Sounds like Japanese to meRoger Ryan wrote:(as Brolin rants about the pancakes in bad Spanish?)
