In other news, Will Ferrell shouldn't be allowed anywhere near sports movies again.

I thought they were making this with Paul Giamatti and Elizabeth Banks?

It's like Prefontaine a few years back, apparently there are three different movie adaptations in pre-production right now. This is the one I want to see though, and it has the biggest stars behind and in front, so it's the most likely to happen, thankfully.

The A.V. Club wrote:The news makes Battle Of The Sexes one of three King-Riggs movies now in the works. One version, made for HBO and written by Proof playwright David Auburn, will star Elizabeth Banks as King and Paul Giamatti as Riggs, while the other, which is called Match Maker and appears to be a more overtly comedic take on the subject, is set to star Will Ferrell as Riggs.

Just wait til you see Carell's yellow pages makeup (though I'm dreading the think pieces already)

This brings up a good question; have there been any great movies (bar documentaries) about Tennis?

Damn, Emma Stone would practically be pulling a Charlize Theron-as-Aileen Wuornos.

He said about tennis, not with tennis in them

Wimbledon is the only film I can think of about tennis and it wasn't particularly good.

I just wanted clarification on what was asked (if my 'work for you' phrasing came off as flippant, it was unintentional). Flyonthewall also mentioned "great movies" about tennis, but there are so few films even about the sport that I wonder what titles are even part of this discussion and whether the two films I mentioned should be included.

As Ashirg said, there's Wimbeldon, plus some direct-to-video film called Balls Out and the TV movie When Billie Beat Bobby. What else?

I've always seen Wimbledon less as a sports film and more about the way that a Richard Curtis-derivative film can be so saccharine that it pushes actors into working with Lars von Trier in response! Or vice versa! (I like to cheekily imagine that Kirsten Dunst is playing the same character here and in Melancholia! It makes that scene of the character's dreamily wide-eyed walk through the park in the moonlight to look at the stars in Wimbledon much more powerful!)

Re: Movies about tennis, just found out there's a 2011 Danish film adaptation of Miss Julie, Julie - en kamp om kærlighed, that translates all of the play's action to the tennis court. We're approaching Jeanne d'Arc / Jesse James levels for Miss Julie now

There's also the HBO one with Andy Samberg that just came out. Heard it's good but sounds a little too silly for my tastes.

Some more pictures from production. Don't bother watching the video.
