Re: New Films in Production, v.2
Haha, that is one of the stupidest, most ridiculous things I have ever heard! It's not as much offensive as it is pointless and quite creatively stupid.mfunk9786 wrote:In stunning turn of events, it seems that Angelina Jolie is a monster

Exploiting impoverished children by pretending to give them money and then scolding them for it is psychotic

And what's so bizarre about it is that it's exploitation that serves no purpose in terms of proving anything about the applicants that a sane person would think pertinent about whether or not they should cast them.

No wonder Brad Pitt ran into the open arms of a 9/11 truther

Re: First They Killed My Father (Angelina Jolie, 201X)
I assume we'll here all amounts of whataboutism regarding this.
"Yes but is it as bad as when Michael Cimino blew up horses with dynamite?"
"Is it as bad as that time they faked shooting a dog to get a child to cry?"

Hah, you'd be surprised how many New Yorkers believe in that though. I was pretty stunned when I first moved here.domino harvey wrote:No wonder Brad Pitt ran into the open arms of a 9/11 truther

Were the children told beforehand that they would be 'caught' and admonished, and that this too was part of the game, or were they just told to lie if they were caught? It's unclear.

Good thing for Jolie if she gets slayed in the media over this is that she can just blame her behavior on her divorce.

I now that I shouldn't pile on, but its impossible to resist bringing out that old Exploitica video mash up of a Bad Seed audition with a clip of Scum of the Earth!

Re: First They Killed My Father (Angelina Jolie, 201X)
It appears so; I'm not surprised this may have been overblown (if you believe Jolie's version) through a combination of imprecise description by the VF writer and overhyped, outrage-seeking regurgitation by aggregators.Mr Sausage wrote:Were the children told beforehand that they would be 'caught' and admonished, and that this too was part of the game, or were they just told to lie if they were caught? Re: Festival Circuit 2017
Angelina Jolie's Khmer Rouge film is getting raves and is quickly being touted as an immediate frontrunner for Best Foreign Language Film, if not actually big awards like Picture or Director nods.

Disappointing to see this thread deteriorate into something more at home at Celebitchy. Lost quite a bit of respect for a few posters here. Can we actually discuss the film, please?
Based on what I've seen and how she's evolving from film to film, I actually think Jolie is turning out to be an interesting filmmaker. It's just that people are more focused on her celebrity and overblown gossip than the actual movies.

I’m not entirely sure it’s a good idea, as a newer user with 12 posts on this forum, to come along and start talking about how little respect you have for people here. Just a word to the wise.

I feel like this is one of our nicer threads. What more can we say about a movie no member has yet seen? "I sure hope this film has (less/the same amount of/more) gratuitous scenes of torture than her last directorial effort?"
EDIT: I forgot she directed By the Sea after Unbroken, which may or may not ruin my joke

I didn't realise this was getting released through Netflix but apparently it's available to stream from this weekend. Has anyone tried it yet?

It's a good, earnest drama. It's very similar tonally to Beasts of No Nation, if *a hair* less solemn. I have not thought about it since leaving the theater yesterday.
