Re: Rialto Pictures
As I recall the discussion (I'm being too lazy to search for and link to the actual thread), someone had claimed that It Always Rains On Sunday was definitely not being released by Criterion.justeleblanc wrote:Despite the Rialto distribution, wasn't this confirmed quite a while ago as NOT being a Criterion release?

Would love to see Breathless-type releases for both of those. What A Disgrace wrote:Le Carabiniers and Le Petit Soldat have been added to their roster.

New Breathless "window card" (mini-poster, I guess? 18.5" x 12") by Yoko Komura for the 50th anniversary (who also did the recent Contempt poster).

Why does the poster have the Studio Canal logo at the bottom? Does that mean they have the rights? If so, aw crap.dadaistnun wrote:New Breathless "window card" (mini-poster, I guess? 18.5" x 12") by Yoko Komura for the 50th anniversary (who also did the recent Contempt poster).

Re: 408 Breathless
Canal worked on the restoration, as they have European rights, so that's the most likely reason as to why they're credited. Pretty Pictures has the US rights.Zombie-Luv wrote:Why does the poster have the Studio Canal logo at the bottom? Does that mean they have the rights? The poster makes Seberg look like that nightmarish Mr. Rogers puppet.

Re: Rialto Pictures
I don't know if this has been mentioned already, but Claude Sautet's Max et les ferrailleurs is opening theatrically in the US on Aug 10th, in a new 35mm restoration. Wouldn't miss that retrospective either if I was in the area.
I certainly wouldn't mind a Criterion release of that new restoration - it's nothing short of a chef-d'œuvre, with a brilliant performance from Piccoli, and (as far as I know) never been available on English-friendly DVD. Here's hoping!

I could be wrong, but I think Criterion's relationship with Rialto is pretty much over. Rialto is StudioCanal's distribution partner in the US, but nearly all of the US home video rights are with Lionsgate.

Re: Rialto Pictures
Oh right, I didn't realize that... Probably just have to hope for an Optimum/Lionsgate DVD then! Either way it's a terrific film - sure hope someone will do something with it...

Re: Rialto Pictures
Apparently the new Total Recall BD looks spectacular. The transfer is taken from the camera negative and supervised by Verhoeven. And it's currently under $10 at Amazon.
But yeah, remember when Criterion used to put out movies like this? I still have my Robocop DVD even though, being non-anamorphic SD, it's nigh unwatchable at this point.

This appears to be good news for further Region 1 releases of StudioCanal's library. Thanks for the heads-up.jwd5275 wrote:Rialto runs with Studiocanal titles in U.S.Matt wrote:I could be wrong, but I think Criterion's relationship with Rialto is pretty much over. I guess I could've post this in the Criterion section to suggest a potential upgrade.

Re: Rialto Pictures
***Trailer***bluray.com wrote:Rialto Pictures has sent us a brand new trailer for the recent 4K restoration of director Anthony Harvey's classic film The Lion in Winter (1968), starring Peter O'Toole, Katharine Hepburn, Anthony Hopkins, Timothy Dalton, and John Castle. The film has been exclusively restored by StudioCanal.
Synopsis: At Christmas Court in 1183 King Henry II (Peter O'Toole) argues with his estranged wife, Eleanor (Katharine Hepburn), over whether Prince John (Nigel Terry) or Richard (Anthony Hopkins in his film debut) shall inherit the throne. Complicating matters, King Philip II of France (Timothy Dalton, also his debut) seeks his own fortune by demanding his sister Alais (Jane Merrow), currently Henry's mistress, be betrothed to Richard, all the while stirring insurrection among all of Henry's sons toward their father.
Upcoming screeninegs:
December 16 – 27 New York, NY FILM FORUM
December 16 – 24 Los Angeles, CA LANDMARK'S NUART THEATRE
NOTE: The new 4K restoration is not yet available on Blu-ray in the United States, but it is available on Blu-ray in the United Kingdom via StudioCanal. You can see our listing of this release
I'm hoping for a Criterion release. If it's in the hands of Studio Canal here in the states we can forget about seeing this.

Re: Rialto Pictures
Twilight Time had previously indicated they had the choice to release it through their MGM deal, but were declining to at the time because the transfer they would have been provided was too poor. Don't know if they will still have the option of releasing it at this point, or whether they'll have access to the new restoration.

Re: Rialto Pictures
According to IMDB, Rialto has all media rights in US. I can't see Rialto doing business with TT.
