Filmarchiv Austria

#1 Post by L.A. » Thu May 10, 2012 3:08 pm

Noticed some interesting silents while browsing Filmarchiv Austria's webstore:

CinemaSessions series

Die Würghand (1920), an early horror film.

Juwelen (1929), a crime and detective mystery.

The archive emailed me that both have English subtitles. Ordered.

These have been on my to-do list for a while. I'll eventually order from Hoanzl where shipping is free for Europe with orders of more than 50 euros.

Two more releases upcoming: the fourth is a proper feature (Alle Räder stehen still) and the fifth is another programme of shorts (Liquid Screen: Maritime Kurzfilme 1907-1962).

How I've still not ordered any of the Austrian stuff is beyond me, considering there's free European shipping on orders over €50 or so. It can wait.

Anyone know of a reliable place to shop for these releases for shipping within Austria? The Filmarchiv site charges about 20 Euros for shipping, which practically doubles the cost of the item, and they don't seem to be regularly stocked at Amazon.at...

EDIT: Hoanzl looks good. Crazy what reading more than one post back will do for you... ](*,)

Shame that these editions don't seem to be stocked at Hoanzl.

Filmarchiv Austria in collaboration with Murnau-Stiftung, a restoration of Varieté (Ewald André Dupont, 1925) will be premiered at the 2015 Berlinale film festival.

Here's a clip from the restoration.

I think this is the archive’s first Blu-ray: Beethoven Stummfilmraritäten including Beethoven (Hans Otto Löwenstein, 1927), Der Märtyrer seines Herzens (Emil Justitz, 1918) and The Origin of Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata (1909).
