Re: New Films in Production, v.2
My first exposure to Nico post The Doors movie was the excellent Nico: Icon documentary that would air regularly on IFC when I was a teen back in the late 90s. The film is harrowing not only because of Nico, but for people like Tina Aumont who are wearing their years of drug abuse. Most of the documentary covers her final years which makes this upcoming film far more interesting than one that would have done the standard focus on her 60s era. Swinton or Blanchett would do well, but I feel there's someone else out there to bring Nico to life on the screen.

Director Rick Famuyiwa leaves The Flash, marking the second directorial departure from the project after Seth Grahame-Smith. This continues a pattern for Warner Bros' DC properties, as Michelle MacLaren was replaced by Patty Jenkins on the Wonder Woman film last year.

That's a shame, I was actually looking forward to see what he'd do with it. I wonder if James Wan will be the next to leave.

Glad to hear this is back on. Sly may be a step down from De Niro, but I don't think it's that big a deal given the latter's sleepwalking tendencies these days.

Re: New Films in Production, v.2
The Playlist reports that Adam Driver and Rooney Mara are confirmed for Leo Carax's Annette. Mara has easily been my favorite actress to emerge from the 2010s. Seeing her paired with Driver, who has himself proved to be a fine young talent, in a Carax-driven vehicle with a sizable budget sounds promising.
Also, count me in for Galveston, a new film directed by Melanie Laurent, based on Nic Pizzolatto's novel. Laurent's Respire was one of my favorite films of that year (I think I placed it number 3 on my year end list). I expect more of the same with Elle Fanning and Ben Foster in the leads.

this one has totally flown under the radar: Alan Rudolph has come out of retirement to direct his first film in over a decade, Ray Meets Helen.

I'm surprised he doesn't have a filmmakers thread but Hayao Miyazaki is planning to direct another animated feature.

Nice. I'd jut about given upon him ever making another film. That it's starring Carradine and Warren, two of his longtime regulars, makes it even better.beamish13 wrote:this one has totally flown under the radar: Alan Rudolph has come out of retirement to direct his first film in over a decade, Ray Meets Helen.

Sometimes I wish I was stupid rich just so that I could lure unsuspecting filmmakers into my office with hopes of funding, only for me to laugh in their stupid faces.

Paramount just seems like a mess, with exceptions like Arrival and Fences seeming to pass by.

Like MGM, Paramount is running on fumes these days, and it wouldn't surprise me if Viacom eventually sold off the whole thing.flyonthewall2983 wrote:Paramount just seems like a mess, with exceptions like Arrival and Fences seeming to pass by.
