Great interview. Thanks for the link.

Maybe Bulle Ogier needs her own thread... (Biased, because she was my first real movie crush, courtesy of Discreet Charm).

Visita will be released in France theatrically in April 2016 by Epicentre Films. Good news. They´ve been good about releasing MO´s films on DVD.

Two French-language pieces about The Strange Love of Angelica:
http://cnc.fr/web/fr/index?p_p_auth=NGv ... h%2Fsearch" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

In the "recherche" box, type "Manoel de Oliveira". Click OK.
When the search results page appears, look under "bibliotheque", click on either 1) or 2).
On the next page, click "télécharger" to download pdf 1 or 2.
There is also a pdf about "Chacun son Cinema", the anthology film featuring a short film by MO.

The first screen seems to be a good search page for materials within the Centre Nationale de la Cinematographie website.

Acclaimed Portuguese director Joao Botelho has made a docu (80 mins) about MO. It ends with "The Gloved Woman" ("Rapariga de Luvas"), Botelho´s version of a screenplay by MO, starring Leonor Silveira, done as a pastiche of a silent B & W melodrama. The title of the MO script is given as "Prostitucao ou A Mulher que Passa". Googling it I found brief info about scripts called "Prostitucao" (1938) and "A Mulher que Passa" (1940). Either Botelho has amalgamated the two scripts or remembers it as one script (or the info I found is wrong). Botelho apparently learned about these scripts while working as MO´s assistant in the 80s.

Antonio Preto talks with MO about Velho do Restelo:

Seems like the only piece where MO talks at length about Restelo, except for the brief Variety interview.

Interview from 1982, unpublished until 2015:

Don´t think I´ve posted these two earlier.

Sadly after Oliveira's death, I did not see any company came up with his movies on blu ray except for a few titles released in Japan. I don't understand why Criterion is totally ignoring his masterworks, such as I'm Going Home, or Abraham's Valley among others.

Vale Abraão should be a no brainer for somebody somewhere. Of course it's my favorite film so I'm a little biased. I thought Arrow was considering releasing some of these titles at some point (the 2020's?). For whatever reason, Oliveira is not a fashionable enough director it seems to get high priority treatment in this area from anyone. Still, as much as I'd love a Vale Blu, if Criterion ever released any I would start with Francisca or 'Non', ou A Vã Glória de Mandar(I'm Going Home, though possibly his most accessible film, is not representative enough).
