Re: Forthcoming: Discussion and Random Speculation Volume 7
Does anyone know who owns the rights to Goyokin and Samurai Assassin? They both exist is wildly expensive, OOP DVD editions but are supposed to be landmark samurai films in their own right, as well as fitting into the samurai niche that CC is firmly ensconced in. I would love to see CC editions for these two, if just to watch them in high quality releases.

Just for the record, I didn't think a slate of SC titles was coming back, just didn't get why Becker would bring up a film that's only going to be on Filmstruck for a few months. And since a member was fantasizing about another SC title coming back, I meant he might as well fantasize big. I'll need hard evidence before I get my hopes up.Drucker wrote:I wish we could have a pinned post in this thread saying Studio Canal titles are not coming back en masse.

The new restoration of The Passion of Joan of Arc is finally getting a Janus tour, thus a new Blu/edition should be sometime in 2018.

The Film Forum's new Repertory Calendar just went up. Includes Janus engagements of Passion of Joan of Arc in late November, and Memories of Underdevelopment in mid-January.

Thanks so much for the heads-up! I knew that Janus is now distributing the DCP (we're screening it at Emory), but I wasn't aware of its presence on FilmStruck.Graphist wrote:The Color of Pomegranates has been added to the FilmStruck Criterion channel!

Since there’s a strong chance Criterion is releasing Fucking Amal now, how will they handle the title / cover? Will it just be called Show Me Love? Could it possibly have reversible art, or will they just be ballsy and release it to stores in its original title.

The original title, with a "Show Me Love" sticker over it on the plastic wrap.kcota17 wrote:Since there’s a strong chance Criterion is releasing Fucking Amal now, how will they handle the title / cover? Title in small typeface, probably.
That said, they've released titles with nudity on the cover art, so....

A quick search shows that Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Best Buy all sell products online with the word "fuck" in the title.

Actually Lights in the Dusk is one of my (many) favorites. If pressed to pick just one (at the point of a gun) -- I think I'd actually go with Tatiana.

Also, worrying about whether stores (I assume people ITT meant brick & mortar stores) will carry certain Criterion releases is a thing of the past.Feego wrote:A quick search shows that Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Best Buy all sell products online with the word "fuck" in the title.

I mostly was just thinking about in-store at Barnes and Noble, but yeah, I’m sure it wouldn’t be a big issue.

It's being used as an adjective, not a verb. And Åmål is a place, not a person.

The lesson is that we can never count it out.Cinephrenic wrote:Great news! I thought Eclipse line was dead.
(And also: It will never change. I really thought that if it would rear its head again there'd be some new element involving a limited BD release or something but I'm just so giddy to not only get the line back but for it to be a really interesting left-field choice and not just more Ozu or the promised Berlanga set)

Re: Forthcoming: Discussion and Random Speculation Volume 7
Were it not for the MoC releases- which are missing a few features but are essentially a 2-for-1 deal pricewise- this would be a really exciting month, and I can hardly blame Criterion for what happens overseas. The resurrection of Eclipse and a newly recorded scholarly commentary are both things I hope for every month, so I'm glad to see both in one.
