Special content made for the Criterion Channel has really no bearing on anything to do with releases as far as we're aware. Criterion is employing people, full-time, to curate and develop content for FilmStruck's Criterion Channel. The way I Was Born But... was handled indicates Criterion does feel some apprehension about fully just rereleasing Eclipse titles into the main line even with newer restorations, and Bergman 100 will probably be the second instance of that happening in some way. I would say that, unless they pair it with some other title like the earlier one, it's probably not on their agenda.

Absolutely
I have the Arrow edition and I highly recommend it
My comment refers to the fact that -without Ludwig- the trilogy is not complete.

I alao have the Ludwig box and beside the elegant package is really great on the technical side,
On the basis of other release,this ipotetical box could be released on the last anniversary date (2021)or before?maybe in the 50 year celebration of "The Damned"?
Also a blu ray of Bergman's Hour of the wolf and Face to Face would be great...

Hadn't seen this anywhere else:

René Clément's The Walls of Malapaga (1949) played on TCM with a Janus logo at the start.

I second Hour of the Wolf and add Shame to the list

Finally! Now we know why it took so long and why it was rumored immediately.

In three months "Japan" can be enjoyed in Blu-Ray format and will be part of the classics of world cinema. There is also an arrangement for the rest of his films to be gradually added to the catalog of the US company, such as Batalla en el cielo (2005), Luz silenciosa (2007) and Post Tenebras Lux (2012).

For what it's worth, Strand Releasing's DVD of Post Tenebras Lux appears to still be in print, but the Blu-ray has seemingly gone out of print.

A post on reddit suggests that Janus could be possibly releasing 'Days of Being Wild'. https://www.reddit.com/r/criterion/comm ... ?context=3" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that As Tears Go By was produced by the same company as Days of Being Wild. So if Criterion has Days of Being Wild, they might also have As Tears Go By.

Here's your round-up

The Tree of Life - 2018 New Years clue, confirmed extended cut by Variety article, also a Twitter confirmation

Smithereens - On Filmstruck with Criterion branding during a Friday Night Double Feature (wasn't on Filmstruck list - as there's a difference between the "monthly add list" and the "one-off programs")

Heaven Can Wait - Random upgrade; restoration played at Venice 2015

Memories of Underdevelopment - Touring from Janus, on Criterion's Filmstruck, and its another WCP film

The Ballad of Gregorio Cortez - On Filmstruck (not Criterion's side though)
====================================================
Well, this was a rather surprising month. Smithereens + Ballad of.. were complete surprises that hadn't been speculated at all (despite their Filmstruck presence). On the other hand, Tree of Life has been rumored ever since the film came out (one of those Wes Anderson situations: "do you think Criterion will release the first blu-ray?")!
259 upgrades remain.

Rather annoyingly, the only New Years (1 clue left) + 2 Newsletter clues we have remaining are all split between two possible films (and the New Years clue might end up just being for Dead Man after all - but we have until December to find out). So there's three (possibly two) films known to be coming based off of clues - but six possibilities.

Have any additional WCP films been restored lately? Perhaps if someone could check against the list on the forthcoming page and let me know if I've missed anything!

Looks like Enamorada (1946) is one WCP film I had missed.

Considering it was just presented at Cannes last Wednesday (May 9) it probably only went onto the Film Foundation's page within the month. Even the FF press release (in Spanish) is only dated May 11th.

"Here's a shout-out to the @Criterion team (and @IssaClubb) for the amount of attention they're paying to the details in the restoration of the Koker trilogy. Looking forward to seeing the clean version of the films in 2019!"

Well, the son of the films' director seems like a pretty authoritative source so it looks like the KOKER trilogy is coming in 2019.

Also, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Koker_trilogy" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Yes, I had to look it up.

Someone on twitter speculated if Koreeda's Palme d'Or win will get Criterion interested in a Like Father, Like Son release. I certainly hope so, the inclusion is long overdue in my opinion.

Not sure if we already knew that this was coming but Hollywood Suite in Canada added Tony Richardson's The Entertainer to their Criterion offerings:

I guess Andrei Rublev will be released on Blu sometime this year. The Janus page now shows Blu as one of the available formats.

I know it’s easier for Criterion to make back their licensing fees with individual releases, but oh how I wish they had just done a Woodfall box set like the BFI. I’ve already bought too many of the individual releases now to make buying the BFI set worthwhile.
