Staid, shallow, and derivative with nothing to say. I hated this very much. Cuaron should stick to the Hollywood circus pictures and leave Fellini’s corpse alone.

I would be very curious to see the behind the scenes material. The film is a stupendous directorial achievement but I find it a bit off-putting in its conception.

Also what other Netflix films have received Blu-ray releases? It seems a bit unusual to me.

Netflix-wise, I'm hoping for THE IRISHMAN to get the physical media release it deserves -- I find it hard to believe Scorsese wouldn't have had that in his contract somewhere...

Other Side of the Wind seems like the obvious one.

Cool to have this on physical media but this is already streaming in 4K with Dolby Vision. This really was the perfect title for them to take the dive on UHD with. Very disappointing.

I hope the other Netflix titles don't meet the same fate.

Yes but can you stream the :: kogonada essay?

This really is the perfect title to show that Criterion isn't going UHD

A BD is coming - can't remember if it's Joseph McBride or someone else related to the film, but they've posted every now and then on social media to repeat that they're working on it and to be patient. No idea if it'll be a Criterion release though.

Especially since the Indiegogo campaign has yet to fulfill its DVD/BD commitments.

A separate Criterion and Netflix thread should probably be made for this conversation, though.

I don't really think this says anything about UHD, since this would be one of the first upgraded titles if that ever happens, and also because perhaps one of Netflix's contingencies was that they retain exclusivity in that format

This is the first Criterion release with a Dolby Atmos soundtrack.

Roma looks like an amazing release with all those supps.

What I’ve been told was Criterion will release The Other Side of the Wind (which I think has been mentioned several times already, including by Philip Jan Rymsza) but the fundraising blu will come first. And that it’s still a bit away from coming.

Seems like A Marriage Story would be an obvious choice

Amazing news. I was getting worried that this might never get a physical release! Can’t wait to watch it again.

I don’t know if this has been mentioned.

From bluray.com....
*The Criterion Blu-ray (and DVD) edition of Roma will be available worldwide and distributed by Criterion (U.S.), Unobstructed View (Canada), Sony Pictures Home Entertainment (UK/Ireland), and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment (Mexico, France, Italy, Germany and other select international territories).

The Criterion release will also have French and Spanish subtitles.

I wonder what packaging will look like, based on Benjamin Button’s traditional blue case— I bet we get some kind of conventional DigiBook case to circumvent the Criterion case inconsistency

I expect the worldwide release is a big indication that the only reason this is coming is due to some contractual requirement from Cuaron or his team, seeing as I don’t see any reason at all why Netflix or Criterion would be particularly interested in doing this in every single market other than being essentially legally bound to.

"PLUS: Essays by novelist Valeria Luiselli and historian Enrique Krauze, along with (Blu-ray only) writing by author Aurelio Asiain and production-design images with notes by Caballero"

Sounds like a substantial booklet/notebook. Maybe something like Do the Right Thing.

Once more, in the great tradition of Criterion being dragged by the heels screaming into any new direction (anamorphic widescreem, Blu Ray) we now have a Roma which has been quarantined to DVD and Blu Ray hard media. No word of 4K UHD. which locks up this title for the idnefinite future. Yet they followed the lead of a few other labels and included the Dolby Atmos track.

WHat the fuck is it with Criterion and their aversion to top level outcomes? Thanks to them I won't buy this disc nor will I recommend anyone else should. At least Netflix maintains 4K streaming (which was one of is best masters so far in that medium, including basic but carefully managed HDR.) I really am sick to death of this fucking label to say nothing for the last fewmonths of unbelievably uninspired "new" titles. I wish any other label got and and could have negotiatred physical media rights for this, and I wish Cuaron could have exercised some authority in at least pushing them in the UHD direction.

Fuck Criterion.
I think you were looking for this thread.

It looks like it is getting a worldwide release, and not on UHD in any territory. I am not sure that the blame therefore lies with Criterion, it may even have been a Netflix stipulation on the physical media license.
