They're definitely from the same master and there's not a huge difference between them overall, but the grain is far better rendered on the BD. And this film is very heavy on the thick 16mm grain.

I finally just picked Johnny Guitar up this week with an Amazon order, so apologies for pushing it over the edge!

I guess Silent Running quickly went OOP because of the recent passing of Douglas Trumbull. It probably also helped that in the wake of that news Mark Kermode made it his Blu-ray of the week again.

Perhaps, but there were only 30 copies left last month. And of course, the new Arrow edition has a newer master.

I imagine Arrow will be porting their edition over in due course. In fact I'd be very surprised if they waited much longer to do so. I wish they'd update their artwork for it though, as the US cover was horrendous.

The end of an era. I expect lots of the other 2015 Paramount titles will start to be deleted now, so a huge swathe of decent MoC titles. Doubt a lot of these will get reissued either (by Paramount or anyone else at this rate, unless Imprint license them).
Is there a list of MoC paramount titles? I used the forum’s function for searching labels by licensors but only Ace in the Hole is listed

In the US it is but Fox controls it in the UK (early copies mistakenly list it as an MGM license).

Also That Cold Day in the Park, which doesn't actually state it's licensed through Paramount but definitely uses their master (so I assume it was at least sourced in part through them).

I remember seeing The Birth of a Nation discontinued several days ago, but when did Varieté get discontinued? With Man with a Movie Camera and Other Works by Dziga Vertov being out-of-stock there's not a promising young future for silent classics.

And a number of the biggies need bluray, of course. The Wind, The Crowd, The Man who gets slapped, Street Angel, The Wedding March, Orphans of the Storm...

The Iron Horse got stuck in some restoration hell, right? Probably some of the others too.

It was announced on FB a few weeks ago. I only saw it because a fellow forum member mentioned it in passing at a film festival. Deff.com still has it in stock, and though shipping ain't cheap, it's surprisingly fast, tracked, their packing was excellent, and they remove VAT for shipping to the US.

Everyone jump on Punishment Park if you haven't already. Absolute masterpiece.

Yeah, that and The Incident are the two I like and don't have yet from the list. I know many have blasted The Song of Bernadette's presentation on the Eureka disc, but some version if worth picking up since it's a Fox title and a terrific film (and I opted, however foolishly, for this one some time back)

The Man Who Could Cheat Death also been deleted, guessing this will happen to all their earlier Paramount acquisitions in due course.

And of course most of the above are Fox, so will all go OOP eventually from whatever label. Luckily I own them all (and bought most of them on pre-order, or soon after release at least).

Heads-up: grab these from third-party sellers/e-tailers if you don't want to break the bank (some are still below £10).

Just a heads-up, the German BD of Punishment Park (under the title Strafpark) has all the extras from the MOC edition plus the two shorts from the BFI release of Privilege.

Double Indemnity has been discontinued. Possibly Criterion's fault?
