2022 CRITERION FORUM AWARDS

Image

IMPORTANT NOTE
NO VOTING UNTIL: DECEMBER 13, 2022
VOTING CLOSES: JANUARY 16, 2023

RESULTS HERE

Voting starts once the last release of December is available to the plebes: Tuesday, December 13th. You may post in this thread before that, but any lists posted early will, as always, be deleted and your message replaced with Okja gifs.

Please either post your votes in this thread or PM me, DarkImbecile. You may or may not vote in most categories, but you must provide a ranked Top Five to be counted at all. No ties will be counted in any category, so make the hard decision if you want your vote to matter.

Your 2022 Criterion Forum Awards categories are:

This is the first year since I’ve been a member here that I won’t be able to vote, as there were/are not even five titles I cared enough about to purchase. Congrats to those who are eligible several times over all the same

Even with each of the WCP titles getting their own spine number?

This actually counts as a vote for Shaft

Many good bonus films this year, but I can't recommend Ceiling (on the Daisies release) highly enough- which will likely beat Calendar, A Bagful of Fleas et al for my pick after revisits. I still have many more to see though

a decent category addition could be "Biggest UHD Omission", cause we have some real candidates..

Mississippi Masala
Pink Flamingos
The Tales of Hoffmann
Summertime
Exotica
Cure
Arsenic and Old Lace

just an idea!

It'd be a good opportunity for everyone annoyed at the surge of "NO UHD?!" posts to spite-vote The Celebration

I'm against it, but even aside from the category serving as a gateway into more negative feedback on Criterion's inadequacies, it's just so broad. I fully expect like seven runner-ups listed for whatever release wins for each member, since it seems many are disappointed that every release doesn't have a UHD option

I'd say to include it, but limit it to one title (if the person feels the category is needed for their ranking in the first place). That way, no one can just dump all their UHD-related grievances into one place

The 1960 Mini-List

MEMBER OF THE YEAR
It's really swo for making the decades lists both an order of magnitude better for us and more of a pain in the ass for him by the same factor AND co-launching SNAPSЖOT AND being generally amusing, but since he's won like six times already I'll go with skilar for the behind the scenes contributions to the list projects and my favorite daily movie game. Strong runner-up honors to Finch for the work in the UHD thread, ryannichols7 for the monthly speculation roundups, Computer Raheem for the monthly cover breakdown, and everyone else who has found a way to regularly contribute to the forum

RICHARD CRANIUM AWARD
Strong late push from some of the denizens of the Sight and Sound thread, but this six-month fiasco has to take the glans-shaped cake

Quick question before I vote: I wouldn’t consider the covers for The Piano or The Power of the Dog to be strong contenders for Best Cover on their own, but I do quite like how they reflect one another, so would it be reasonable to treat them as a single entry for the purposes of these awards?

RICHARD CRANIUM AWARD
Cinephile1

As others have said, not a whole lot for me this year. It doesn't help that I've fallen off film watching pretty heavily in favor of other activities (video games, writing music again, spending time with friends, etc.). I know I said this last year, but I hope to be a more active contributor in 2023!

It absolutely kills me to see people voting the best cover of the year as the worst
