Oh my God. Nicholas Cage looks positively desiccated. It's like some unholy insect sucked out all of his bodily fluids and left his dried out corpse behind.Feego wrote: ↑Tue Aug 25, 2020 12:20 pmTo me, the Moonstruck cover just seems like a needless reworking of the original (and famous) poster. I've never seen the film, but the impression I've always had is that it's very much a "New York" movie, so the appearance of the New York skyline behind Cher seemed fitting. Without it, this could just as easily be a Witches of Eastwick character poster.

We don't talk enough about how many fan-made, custom covers are truly awful.

Re: 177 The Lost Honor of Katharina Blum
Hi, I'm new to the forum as a subscriber/user, but not as a reader. However, I do not know where to post the following (and whether it's been discussed elsewhere):
I just got my order on the doormat and it contains the following four CC titles:
*The Lost Honor Of Katherina Blum
*Portrait Of A Lady On Fire
*Cremator
*The Cranes Are Flying
ALL booklets are damaged (the 'open' side of the booklets were pushed against the hard plastic thingy, so they all ripped) and TWO of the four inlays were put in by toddlers I guess, because they were sticking out half an inch/1 cm.
I had this before ON OCCASSION, but not like this and in this quantity! My question(s) to you all:
Can I get new booklets from Criterion? And who to approach? And last but not least: is this the right board for this (guess not!)?

You'll want to email Jon Mulvaney at mulvaney@criterion.com for replacements.RichardFisk wrote: ↑Thu Aug 27, 2020 10:26 amHi, I'm new to the forum as a subscriber/user, but not as a reader. However, I do not know where to post the following (and whether it's been discussed elsewhere):

However, when I last emailed them regarding a replacement for one of my own BDs, they explained that due to COVID-19 regulations they wouldn't be able to continue the process for mailing replacements until a later date. I don't think it would hurt to send an email regardless, since they may reach out later when they're open again. That's more of my own wishful thinking, though.

Re: Criterion & Eclipse Cover Art & Packaging Babble-on Vol. 7
I had two things I requested packaging replacements for but it was right as the country was going on lockdown. It was for an All About Eve digipak since I had gotten a copy with the original rubber nipple packaging and the slip case for the Moral Tales set. Well what ended up happening is that they responded by saying since everyone was now working remotely for an indefinite period and again this was right as the quarantine was beginning they would just send out completely new copies without having to return/exchange anything. Keep in mind this was for packaging so it may not be the case for inner materials or the case (meaning situation) at all. Basically though I urge people that if it is still the case just do not abuse it. I still feel weird I got a whole new Moral Tales set and offered numerous times to ship back my copy with a dinged up slip but they refused.

Anyone else have the now out-of-print Last Year at Marienbad Criterion blu? Man, that packaging has not held up, completely browned like an old newspaper. It's not in the sun or anything. My father's 50 year old record collection looks better.

Yes, mine's been out of the sun, but completely faded too.

Noticed it a few days ago. The difference from the cover to the spine really looks bad.

Just went and checked mine, looks fine. I've moved twice since I bought it, but it's always been stored in the basement out of direct sunlight.

The same has happened to my copy of the film. I've done my best to keep it out of sunlight as well.
I was thinking it might be more of an issue with dirt and dust, though. I wouldn't know how to go about trying to clean it up without potentially ruining the material, though.

I appreciate the responses, and the confirmation that it's not just my copy.
My Confession: I don't totally hate the browning of the packaging. It kinda fits with the movie's whole vibe. Finitude. Temporality. Ephemerality. What are we all but a digipack of Last Year at Marienbad slowly browning in the bookcase of time?

I'm quite certain my On The Waterfront digi also browned over time, despite never being in the direct sun.

I think both of the new covers are fine. Nothing amazing but certainly not bad. Definitely not really bad.

There have been a fair amount of solid visually-pleasing artistic designs given to other Crash releases lately, so it's nice to see Criterion going for something completely different in full nightmarish chaos

As far as Crash, I like all three covers from the releases this year but I think the best one is from the Mondo reissue of the score on vinyl
This would have been cool if laserdiscs were somehow still a thing
