The idea that someone is going to walk around in a T shirt that just reads "Foreign" in a sans-serif font is embarrassing, but the nearly invisible "Silent" design might somehow be worse.

The backwards “Avant-Garde” one is pretty embarrassing as well.

They should get with the times. It's called "International" now

The only scarcely legible "Silent" is supposed to mean...?

It's great Criterion invests time for this kind of merch and not for upgrading Les Enfants Terrible. Or Under the Volcano. Or White Dog. Or....

They seem to be making as much fun of this as everyone here (from what I see) so not many.

This is going to be like the Ramones, where you will have far more people wearing these T-shirts than people who've bought a Criterion reissue! Just you wait!

If Chris is right, then I suspect they won't sell well at all. Who are they for, if not the acolytes on reddit? What kind of movie fan gets their movie-fan girlfriend a T-shirt that just says "Romance" on it, or boyfriend "Action" or whatever? This has Failure written all over it

Outside of their context these t-shirts have no meaning at all. Maybe people collect t-shirts?

I guess I’m just a big lame because I think they’re neat. I like the gimmicky “avant-garde” and “silent” shirts in particular and would buy one if they didn’t only come in white. Thinking about the “monster” one though

EDIT: Didn’t realize they announced the t-shirt line the same day as substantial layoffs. Gross.

Perhaps most of the layoffs were of those responsible for enacting these war crimes against fashion

I think the tees that say "monster" (Sasquatch, Godzilla, King Kong, Loch Ness...) and "screwball" are fun in a campy way, not that I'd be caught dead in them

I bought a few T-shirts from labels or movies I like, but the issue with Criterion's stuff is that... it's just way too expensive for what it is. $45 for a baseball cap with just the C on it ? No way.
The same apply here : $35 for these Tees ? That's $10 than the ones I bought from Vinegar Syndrome which have much less... minimalistic designs.

The only Criterion fashion merch I’ve ever considered buying is their House t-shirt, which looks really fun for Halloween, but yes way too expensive.

Yeah, it’s the only good thing they’ve got (I actually did buy that once for an ex, but I recall it being like 15/20 bucks)

This is market research. Criterion will stop releasing titles in the three lowest-selling genres.

We gotta bulk-buy "Silent" tees. Criterion can't stop all of us

I received an email today with a $10 gift certificate code for being a Criterion Channel subscriber, and it mentioned that all items in the store are 30% off until December 18.

Does anyone happen to know if there’s a cutoff for reaching out to Criterion about faulty or defective discs? I got Raging Bull directly from the Criterion Store during the flash sale in October and only just got around to watching it last night, and even though it was the first time I’d so much as taken the disc out of the case, there was a scene that skipped on the 4K. Should I try for a replacement disc, or has it been too long since I ordered it for that to be an option?

30% off through 2/16. In lieu of a 50% off sale?
