I've gotten to this project much too late to make too much of an impact, but I hope you can set aside an hour and a half before you submit your list to watch The Bob Emergency (2019, dir. Jon Bois), one of last decade's most unexpectedly profound pieces of art from a silly premise: there used to be a lot of sports figures named Bob, now there are very few. From there, Bois finds Bobs who are legends of their fields and Bobs who failed so miserably that they barely register as blips on the historical record, and he finds in all of them pathos and strength even in their failures. It's both much funnier and much more moving than the average sports documentary, and it ranks very high on my (again, very tardy) list.
I'll have to check that out as Bois' 17776 would stand a fair chance of making my list if it were a movie

His movies in the '10s have been good, and he's adapted well to working within China's state-sanctioned film industry, but they also feel like they've lost something that really drew me into his films up to and including 24 City (2008) - it's hard to put in words, but while his newer work still tries to retain some mystery, it feels like there's less to discover underneath the surface. It even feels like this is reflected in the broader strokes and more garish aesthetic.

Thanks to everyone for your participation this round. I'll be releasing the results shortly in the next three posts. Here as usual is a guide to what the figures listed after each film represent, each separated with a slash mark:

1. Total points (50 for each #1 placement, 49 for each #2, etc.)
2. Number of lists the film appeared on (out of 31 submitted). If the film appeared in anyone's top 10, the number of top 10 appearances is also denoted in parentheses.
3. Highest placement of the film on any one list. If more than one person ranked the film this high, this is also denoted in parentheses.
4. Since there is no prior list to compare against, I've shown instead the change in position from the Round 1 version of the list, with movements of 10 or more highlighted. Any orphans that have been saved will show up as "New."

So for example, the 234/9(2)/7(x2)/+5 shown for The Turin Horse means that it scored 234 points and appeared on 9 lists (and two top 10s), with two people ranking it as high as #7. The film also moved up 5 positions during Round 2.

For the list of orphans, only figure #3 is displayed (the highest rank, not the score given).

If anyone would like me to PM them a list of how all of their picks fared in the overall tally (rather than having to scour through all of the results) it's a simple thing for me to do. Just let me know.

I'll open the 1960s thread in the next few days. In the meantime, feel free to continue discussion in this thread regarding the results of this project and to share your individual lists (including defenses of your poor-faring favorites).

Most hilarious result is that Interstellar went from being an orphan to Nolan's highest ranked film. Also interesting that La flor received the most #1 mentions but didn't make the top 10

Fun fact: Did you know the Moonrise Kingdom font is named Tilda and was based on the opening credits for Chabrol's La Femme infidèle?

I figured that was him.

Also a big thanks to Swo as well. This was a lot of fun and full of discovery.

I was wavering between this and The Young Pope for my #1 slot up until the end, considering they're essentially tied for my favorite film of all time right now after Pierrot le fou. If I had switched teams, I imagine that the Sorrentino would be even further down the list with the most #1 slots based on points?

Pointwise, there's practically no difference between voting for something at #1 vs. #2. The only reason I brought this up is that it feels more legitimate if the overall #1 spot goes to a film that at least a couple people named as their own personal #1. Only four films did that here, with the overall #1, #2, and #7 positions each receiving two first place votes and the overall #14 position, La flor, receiving three

Yeah I figured as much, just thought it was interesting that the film with the most number of first-place votes could've easily would up at the bottom of the main list instead of the top

Well, the number of #1 votes measures extreme support but La flor (and anything else placing that high) has a lot more support backing that up, with a couple more top 10 placements and a few more list placements beyond that. By another measure (most top 10 placements), The Tree of Life would have made sense as a winner. But what gave the Sciamma the win in the end was another metric that no other film met: appearing on more than half of all lists submitted

Hell yeah!

As for the final list, there are a few surprises to me, including the number 1 spot. Unfortunately, a few friends who wanted to or even did make a list missed the opportunity to participate, they could have changed some things, inlcuding rescuing a few of my orphans.
