Disney should license out Fox titles for distro but retain intellectual property rights for remakes, though they appear to be operating on the old school studio tradition of removing the earlier film from distro to not “dilute” the remake, ie one of the most destructive behaviors of the studio era

They more or less have done that with their very own classics. Release new, so called updated versions and vault the classics. Only to release them for special occasions

They do seem to be timing UHD blu ray releases of their animated catalog to coincide with home releases of their live action remakes (as was scheduled for Mulan this year; not sure the current status of those plans), which seems like the opposite strategy, unless I’m misunderstanding what you’re referring to. Maybe the whole renaissance era is at the ideal point for maximum nostalgia exploitation with ‘90’s kids’ now raising kids so there’s no cap on those titles for now? (Dumbo 1941 didn’t get a UHD release.) And they definitely seem to have no problem taking the ‘pretend it never happened’ approach to potentially problematic elements they edit out...

Disney is one of the richest companies on the world, so I suppose I shouldn't question their business savvy, but at the same time I really question their policies. Do they really believe that there are people will only sign up for Disney+ because they can no longer see Sound of Music in a rep theatre? Are those two things really competing? And for this situation, they're not going to remake EVERY classic Fox film, unless there's some unknown version of Song of Bernadette with Selena Gomez that I'm not aware of.

But again, they're rich and I'm not so maybe they have crunched the numbers on this one.

Bogdanovich's What's Up, Doc? appears to be OoP... Here's hoping this is another one WB will bring back into print under the WAC line.

Thanks for the heads up. This was one of those releases I meant to pickup but never got around to it.

I am just thinking about Disney re-imaginings still:

Christopher Nolan's The Black Hole (oh, wait... )
Robert Eggers' The Watcher In The Woods! [-o<
Something Wicked This Way Comes: The Broadway Musical!

I'd say the reason The Black Hole was only recently coughed out onto BD, was that Joseph Kosinski was meant to be working on a sequel/remake after he made Tron: Legacy. That obviously didn't happen, so he went on to make a manly film about firefighters.

So I imagine the end of Fox will also mean their DVDs will also go out of print. With that in mind, I ordered these to cover areas I'm missing in the classic Hollywood era (some are blus):

Kazan
Man on a Tightrope (Spanish blu)

Fox 50s noirs
Dangerous Crossing
House on Telegraph Hill
(Fourteen Hours was too expensive for my taste)

Mank
People Will Talk
5 Fingers

War films
Guadalcanal Diary
The Desert Fox
The Longest Day
The Enemy Below
A Walk in the Sun
Decision Before Dawn
Sink the Bismarck

Other
Deadline USA
The Big Trail
Blood and Sand

Has the KLinsider made any comments on the Fox titles they have and whether they'll go OOP?

Longest Day is cheaper to snatch up in the John Wayne Collection FYI, or at least it was a few weeks ago

Uh oh. Are the other Fox licensed MoC titles at risk for going OOP? Does anyone have a list of the the Fox Titles?

This is bamwc2, btw. Unfortunately, my last computer died a year ago, and the forum login didn't recognize my login information on my new one. It won't let me reset it, and I can't send a PM to CDChris on this account.

This is what he said last October: "All our Fox releases are still under license for another three to four years. Some will go on moratorium and some not."

I'm a Disney Movie Club member and they recently had a big ad about Fox titles joining the club for the first time. They've previously had some interesting exclusives (like the Saludos Amigos/Three Caballeros blu-ray) so I thought maybe there may be something of interest there, but alas, it's a whole lot of nothing unless you're hoping to complete your Diary of a Wimpy Kid franchise collection.

Thanks, Swo. I haven't had a job in a year, but just picked up several titles from AmazonUK in fear that this will be my last chance to get them.

Fox titles may not be OOP forever after all. I realized there was a missing Fox title I wanted after all, Working Girl, and after monitoring the absurd $40+ prices on eBay for a few weeks, it popped up as back in stock on Amazon and my new copy is en route now for like $12. Could these "OOP" titles just be between pressings thanks to the Fox/Disney transfer, or is this just a popular title that will remain in print no matter what?
This is back at Amazon again

I noticed Oklahoma was too earlier today, after becoming upcharged by third party sellers over the last few weeks. I talked to an amazon rep who said there was a shipment due in the next couple days. Not gonna assume it’s full of Fox titles off of these two but the in-stock dates line up.

Is Amazon a good indication that titles are OOP when they are only available through third parties?
