Re: Paradjanov on DVD
Paradjanov's first feature, Andriesh is now available on DVD in Russia. No English and the picture is not too hot. See review here.

Re: Paradjanov on DVD
Is there any chance for Blu-ray releases for any of his films? "Shadows"? "Color of Pomegranates"?

Re: Paradjanov on DVD
Has been restored (it's already been screened), so hopefully sooner rather than later.

Re: Paradjanov on DVD
The Dovzhenko National Centre in Kyiv has been working on a digital restoration of Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors, but I don't know whether it is finished. They screened the work in progress in September for the 50th anniversary of the film's premiere.

Any more available details on this? Any idea what source material are they working with?jsteffe wrote:The Dovzhenko National Centre in Kyiv has been working on a digital restoration of Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors, but I don't know whether it is finished. Well this news sounds very promising indeed. I wonder if there is any way to learn more about this restoration.

jsteffe, you would not happen to have any contacts in Ukraine who might know anything about the progress of this restoration, would you? Sorry to trouble you. Or anyone else on the forum?jsteffe wrote:I'm afraid that's all I know at this point.

You could just be proactive and contact the centre itself.

Good idea. I sent them an email. Let's see what they say.

Re: Paradjanov on DVD
They have English speakers there, so you should get a response. A number of us have contacted them in the past regarding various things. It's a good centre, but as you can possibly imagine with it being in Ukraine, they are terribly underfunded and resourced to do true justice to their cinematic heritage.
