Not surprising since Michael De Luca, who was a bigwig at New Line and was instrumental in getting Boogie Nights made there, now runs MGM. Bless him for trying to (almost got the next Scorsese movie) and sometimes getting (they are putting out Ridley Scott's next movie) big original projects for a studio that's been a shell of it's former glory for a long time until recently.

Leaked news from one Twitter source on characters that have a lot of juice on the table, as the script features a director in the mantle of late career John Huston, a take no prisoners female agent, and a closest politician.

Glad this is moving forward, though I can’t help but wonder what Harrison Ford and PTA could do together

Kind of crazy that Leonardo DiCaprio left this to do Nightmare Alley, then he left that project and was replaced by Bradley Cooper, now Cooper is just doing both

One of the characters is a "closeted politician" -- I'm really hoping PTA doesn't trot out that tired old "pathetic queer in love with an out of his league muscular straight man" trope again.

Again meaning? When did he use it before? (I haven't seen all his films.)

If you want to get creative, that's also a possible subtext of the Hoffman-Phoenix relationship in The Master (maybe not so much "out of his league").

Others have replied, so yeah. And it was most disheartening that PTA trotted that tired old trope out in two films in a row. We'll see.

Yeah but that was also decades ago, and since then he's drawn more complex characterizations, so with that maturity comes hope for the same here (I still love both those films in question, however).

Not that I've seen, though the result last time was extraordinary so I wouldn't be surprised to see another uncredited multi-party collaborative job.

Judging by set photos (where you get to see a lot of Bradley Cooper in a rage while styled like a Bee Gee), one of the Haim sisters has a role in this.

If it was set in DC I'd say it's a play on Foggy Bottom. But I guess it may just involve some wet butts... finally!

I’m not sure the hunky bartender in Magnolia is supposed to be read as straight. I’ve always read him as being “kept” by Henry Gibson’s character. But then, it’s been quite a while since I’ve seen it.

I dunno if there are any fans of the great British baking show but that is where my mind immediately. I binged the entire series - all 10 seasons or show and the sheer number of times they say soggy bottom is crazy. If you played a drinking game with that word, you would be sloshed every episode.

So maybe PTA is a fan of the show!

Twitter has already ascertained that Cooper appears to be playing a Jon Peters analogue in this. Peters certainly fits into PTA's recent focus on belligerent men in positions of power.
