Benny Safdie will appear in the film as real-life L.A. politician Joel Wachs.

Judging by set photos (where you get to see a lot of Bradley Cooper in a rage while styled like a Bee Gee), one of the Haim sisters has a role in this.
Per the AW forum, the boy next to Alana Haim is Philip Seymour Hoffman's son

EDIT: Cooper Hoffman is indeed the lead of the film

Sean Penn spotted on set, though from his appearance he doesn’t seem to be in costume and could just be visiting

If this production is following COVID-19 protocols, I'd be surprised if visitors were even allowed.

Yeah that’s the main reason I’m hopeful

I think this film's set and press junket could be confusing. "How was it working with Cooper?" "Can you get Cooper on the set in 5 minutes?"

You’re right, what were they thinking. Can’t think of a way around that

To get back to this, John C. Reilly recently said that he got a COVID test solely so that he could visit the set of this, so it's possible that Penn did the same.

Just kidding... In all honesty though, why haven’t they announced the full cast yet? It’s now been almost 5 months since they completed principal photography

I don't know. This sounds more like Boogie Nights re do without the co-star, Genitalia.

My fault for the confusion... approved that first post without checking to see if it was even close to accurate. That’s what I get for assuming people are posting in good faith.

With Penn on the set, I thought there may be validity to that casting at least. Well, getting people's hopes up is one fun way to celebrate the anniversary of COVID lockdown in the U.S., good joke

No joke this time, it seems that this has been dated for September 10 of this year.

EDIT: Or not, see below.

Why? Then no theatrical release and no physical disc release afterwards.

Honestly I often hope a film gets picked up by Netflix, because the chances of films with a budget of less than a 100 million getting a non-festival theatrical release here are relatively slim (often they arrive with huge delays because some sort of "hype" materializes — Nomadland this year for example). Straight-to-streaming means no painful waiting for it to come out on VOD after everybody's already seen it. Plus there's always a chance for a Criterion release for Netflix's "prestigious" movies

Good point Pavel, glad to hear some countries are actually getting more opportunities from these companies to see films that otherwise would have more conservative distribution. And yes, I don't know where Monterey Jack has been, but Criterion would surely be fast-tracking a PTA blu with extras next year if it were with Netflix, and Netflix movies in general have been getting theatrical releases in the U.S. for a little while now following some stubbornness that resulted in a short-lived awards boycott. Netflix changed that model within the last couple years, give their awards-pushing films theatrical releases before streaming, and now are a major awards player.

So true. Can't believe I was able to watch Mank or The Irishman on release date on Netflix when typically I'd have to wait 5 to 6 months for them to be released here (and sometimes they wouldn't even play in theaters in my city after all).

Cast now includes Emma Dumont and Mary Elizabeth Ellis (perhaps as Sue Mengers)

Hearing that the Cooper Hoffman character is based on
SpoilerShow
Gary Goetzman, regular collaborator of PTA's idol Jonathan Demme and a former child actor in the 60s.
