Re: Steven Spielberg
This sounds a bit similar to a semi-autobiographical project he was developing with his sister Anne (who co-wrote Big) some years ago.

Well, now we know where the Richard Dreyfuss archetype came from

Re: Untitled Spielberg Family Movie (Steven Spielberg, 2022)
Judd Hirsch, Jeannie Berlin, Robin Bartlett, and Jonathan Hadary join the cast which apparently already includes Gabriel LaBelle as a young Spielberg standin and Julia Butters as his sister- the working title is The Fabelmans

Re: The Fabelmans (Steven Spielberg, 2022)
Is that spoilered tidbit confirmed or merely a rumor at this point?
Either way, this is an artistic collaboration I never expected would happen but am pleased as punch to hear about!

It hasn't been confirmed by the studio but entertainment journalists who've had access to this information long before this announcement have said that it's true.MitchPerrywinkle wrote: ↑Fri Feb 04, 2022 6:38 pmIs that spoilered tidbit confirmed or merely a rumor at this point?

It's hard for me to think of anyone Lynch resembles less than the mystery celebrity in that spoiler box, so this should be interesting

There’s a lot more resemblance when they’re both wearing hats and glasses, and more importantly, the vocal cadences are not far off.

It totally makes sense. They're the 2 names I remember from a list of famous Eagle Scouts I read when I was in Cub Scouts.MitchPerrywinkle wrote: ↑Fri Feb 04, 2022 6:38 pmEither way, this is an artistic collaboration I never expected would happen but am pleased as punch to hear about!

The first trailer has been released. It also premiered at TIFF last night, and it seems to be a hit.

Reviews confirm that Lynch is in fact playing the spoilered historical figure in question

Re: The Fabelmans (Steven Spielberg, 2022)
Can we have a moratorium on the whole "protagonist sits in a movie theatre and looks up at the big screen in awe" shot?

Re: The Fabelmans (Steven Spielberg, 2022)
No need. If you wait it out a bit longer, the filmmakers with formative theater experiences to draw upon will gradually be phased out and instead we will see shots of protagonists lying in bed staring at laptop screens.

Touché.
From the reviews, this sounds like a much better Licorice Pizza. It's even getting the American Graffiti comparison as well.

Re: The Fabelmans (Steven Spielberg, 2022)
It's already been compared to LP in quite a few reviews I've read. Apparently it's also a "memory piece" and similar in episodic structure and somewhat meandering tone. This seems much more personal and direct though so I bet it's going to be much more effective IMO.

Looks pretty much exactly what I thought it was going to look like.yoloswegmaster wrote: ↑Sun Sep 11, 2022 9:58 amThe first trailer has been released. It also premiered at TIFF last night, and it seems to be a hit.
I'll be shocked if this cracks Top 5 Spielberg for me but, hey, it might make for a pretty good date movie.
