Re: Turner Classic Movies
Thanks for the link to that article, FrauBlucher. TCM is my go-to-channel, and I'd hate to ever lose it. But this isn't the first article I've read lately on the topic of the network's survival and hope it isn't a portent of things to come. It probably isn't, but still it gets me a little worried. (Surprised Coppola says he only recently discovered He Ran All the Way on TCM. Would think that's just the kind of movie he'd have been on to years ago. But glad he found it.)

Re: Turner Classic Movies
The comment about TCM keeping people from cutting the cord is certainly true for me. I ditched Dish Network for Playstation Vue and currently YouTube TV, but I wouldn't have bothered with either but for getting TCM. Soccer is another factor, but TCM is the primary one.

Re: Turner Classic Movies
My complaints about the channel are few and far between, but... their trend over the past couple of months to run flat Academy ratio trailers in a distorted widescreen has been driving me a little bonkers. It may not be as egregious as stretching a 1.37 feature to 16:9 (which they've done), but it's still wrong.

Re: Turner Classic Movies
Me as well. I've been wanting to cut the cord for quite a while but TCM is very important for me. Most of my TV viewing is TCM. So, it's hard to do. I do think it's not going away anytime soon. Some how they will figure out how to live along side streaming

Re: Turner Classic Movies
I don’t have TCM (or any TV channels) anymore, but when they casually present something like that latest print of Looking for Mr. Goodbar, they’re cementing their invaluable service to the film community

Re: Turner Classic Movies
Isn't TCM available through streamers like Hulu Live? I believe I had it when I was using Hulu Live (I went back to cable though after Hulu raised their prices without adding new channels).FrauBlucher wrote: ↑Sun Jun 27, 2021 10:04 amMe as well. Re: Turner Classic Movies
It is available through streamers, which is how I get it. Technically I cut the cord in that I no longer have cable or satellite service, but I'm still paying for the more or less standard package of channels on YouTube TV mainly to get TCM. The only way I can see dropping it is if too many films are excluded from streaming, which has happened a few times.Drucker wrote: ↑Mon Jun 28, 2021 9:58 amIsn't TCM available through streamers like Hulu Live? Wait, are you saying that if you watch TCM on YTTV, there are times rights issues preclude you from being able to watch?

It’s really pretty rare - I’ve only ever seen it for Promise Her Anything, but they’ve basically said there are a few older studio movies that just do not have the paperwork clearing them for anything other than lineae broadcast so they can’t air it on the various web services.

This happened semi-recently with Looking for Mr. Goodbar. I set it to record on YouTube TV, checked the next morning and nothing—annoying but I had a feeling.Ribs wrote: ↑Tue Jun 29, 2021 6:47 pmIt’s really pretty rare - I’ve only ever seen it for Promise Her Anything, but they’ve basically said there are a few older studio movies that just do not have the paperwork clearing them for anything other than lineae broadcast so they can’t air it on the various web services.

The TCM recording is on some backchannels, but a crime really that it can't be more accessible in pristine condition

This weekend, Eddie Muller is presenting Los Tallos Amargos (The Bitter Stems), a "hardcore" Argentine noir from 1956 he worked to restore.

Flicker Alley’s 2017 calendar claimed that they would be releasing that movie in a dual format edition in that year.

After the movie, Muller said that Los Tallos Amargos would soon be available in an enhanced Blu-ray edition from Flicker Alley, but gave no specific date.PillowRock wrote: ↑Mon Jul 19, 2021 9:16 pmFlicker Alley’s 2017 calendar claimed that they would be releasing that movie in a dual format edition in that year.

But while classic is forever, we here at TCM are thinking it’s time for a refresh.
Don’t get us wrong, we’ll still present the greatest films ever made, along with all the backstories, profiles and context you’ve come to expect. That’s our DNA and a promise.
Only now, we’ll be doing it in a fresh, new way.
Same but different; making the best even better.
We’re excited to show you.
See for yourself starting September 1st.

They're going to follow AMC's winning transformation every step of the way, beginning with their awkward phase when Superman III was considered an American Movie Classic.
