More of a shame they didn't include Un agenzia matrimoniale or Le tentazioni del dottor Antonio, the two-half films you need to get to 8½

A pretty monumental new study - FELLINI 23 1/2 Tutti i film - by Aldo Tassone, just published in Italian by Cineteca di Bologna, all 880 pages of it!...

As dubbing was the norm rather than the exception in Italian films of the era and earlier, it is not unusual or to be decried, it's just how things where...
True, but if the English-speaking actors in the cast came in and dubbed their own voices for an alternate soundtrack to be used in English-speaking markets, then it would be nice to have that soundtrack as an option.
See also Pasolini’s The Canterbury Tales, which for me plays much better in English. (Tom Baker, like Freddie Jones, has too distinctive a voice to take kindly to having it replaced by an anonymous Italian.)

Nights of Cabiria looks superb at Beaver. Really stunning, and I almost feel like it's not the norm these days to see a restoration look so good!

Is the screenshot for 'Amarcord' on the Criterion page for the boxset from the Ritrovata restoration? It doesn't seem to have that strong yellow tint that I was expecting.

I've been having internet problems last day or two, thought they were mostly all straightened out. But: is dvdbeaver.com up? Can't seem to get to it as of right now.

It's not working for me either.

Is Nights of Cabiria the only one from the boxset reviewed so far?

La Strada looks better than the SC.
It's no surprise : the SC BD was quite disappointing, obviously filtered and with quite a harsh contrast. Glad to see the new 4K restoration fixes this despite being seemingly sourced at least from the same element.

So that's where the missing audio commentary was.

The new restoration comes with an entirely new color scheme.

I think shots 6 and 8 could be questionable (and 8 only in direct comparison to Criterion's older transfer, because on its own it looks alright), but other than that, being a Ritrovata job, the colors appear fine.

There are a few caps that indeed allow to instantly know which lab did the work, but other than that, yes, many other caps don't bear their usual signature at all. I wonder how it compares to the IT BD.

Re: Amarcord the contrast looks a little bit crushed to me, but yeah, the color's not a disaster.

Amarcord is not a political film?

Anyways, I think it looks pretty good, and I'm curious about revisiting it. The first and only time I saw it, I was very tired and it was on a laptop. Not a very memorable experience.

The new Juliet of the Spirits transfer looks noticeably lighter and has hints of teal/yellow per DVDBeaver
