Re: Janus Films
Since Toby Dammit wasn't included in the Fellini box, I wonder if Criterion will release a standalone Spirits of the Dead -- as Home Vision did back in the day.

The Variety Lights DVD was licensed from StudioCanal, so I'm surprised Janus has the theatrical rights. I assumed those would be with Rialto.

I know a filmmaker who is working on one of the extras for MIRROR as he has until early February to finish it for the 2021 release schedule.yoloswegmaster wrote: ↑Fri Oct 16, 2020 8:56 pmPages for 'Celine and Julie Go Boating' and 'Mirror' are up on the Janus site.

Re: Janus Films
Pages for Chess of the Wind (isn't the actual title for this The Chess Game of the Wind?), Chop Shop, and Man Push Cart are now up.
Hopefully we get a stand-alone release of Chess this year.

Re: Janus Films
This would make a great extra on a Criterion disc of something like Mirror.Ribs wrote: ↑Mon Mar 08, 2021 5:04 pmJanus has acquired Andrey Tarkovsky Jr.'s "Andrey Tarkovsky. A Cinema Prayer" and will release theatrically.

Re: Janus Films
The old DVD was rough so this will be an exciting update. I prefer Watermelon Man, but fans of the more somber New Wave films will probably love it. In many respects it feels like a time machine to Vidor’s silent films.therewillbeblus wrote: ↑Tue Mar 23, 2021 4:03 pmThat's a huge announcement, tough film to find, and from what I've heard Van Peebles' masterpiece

Re: Janus Films
Great news! While Sweetback is very stylish, reactionary, and often funny, this by comparison is far more somber and owes a lot to the French New Wave. Always happy to hear Van Peebles talk too, so any new edition will be worth it for that. Too bad the Sweetback commentary is stuck forever to the Criterion laserdisc, but the Vinegar Syndrome edition is a gorgeous 4K restoration totally worth owning as well.

Are there any sources for this? I can't seem to find anything on the Janus twitter page and nothing is showing up on their website.

Haven't we heard rumors about Criterion also getting Sweetback? Maybe they'd put out a boxset like for Marlon Riggs?

Re: Janus Films
I believe VS renegotiated for the titles that were going OOP and will be retaining them for the time being. Janus emailed the news of the restoration opening to press.
