Hmm, didn't even know there was an old HD master. Better than what we have, at least. Not completely unexpected it isn't the new restoration (like I said, it's always seemed more likely to me it would premiere at a festival, à la Xiao Wu) but I was still holding out some hope. Maybe it'll show up this fall at Pingyao.

To be honest, I skimmed through the movie on my phone at the time of my original comment. I'm now on my computer and it honestly looks to be an SD upscale, as the image is never sharp and looks to be quite soft.

surprised no one has mentioned that Margaret is the 186 minute director's cut. haven't gotten to check to see if its HD

Can't take screenshots of the Criterion Channel version, but I think whatever master they're using of the extended cut of Margaret is around the same resolution as the one floating around back channels. A bunch of scenes have mildly altered colors, though (the Criterion Channel version has less of a white tint). The CC version only has the dated Fox Searchlight and Camelot logos shared with the back channels version.

Has Mati Diop's Atlantics (feature film, not the short by same name) been on the Channel? For that matter, have any Netflix films shown on the Channel?

Criterion posted a slow-mo 'clip' of Margaret on FB that looks way better than the resolution from the extended cut, with the wacky C at the end- maybe it's an ad for the channel but doesn't advertise it as such... I'm remaining optimistic

Coffee and Cigarettes opens with Criterion and Janus logos on the Channel. The Wayne Wang titles, including Chan is Missing, do not open with the logos.

Missing logos just means it isn't with Janus, it doesn't mean that a disc release isn't happening.

Margot at the Wedding needs a blu-ray release, ideally with some scholarly extras around its eccentric yet apt portrayal of often-pathologized as 'dysfunctional' family dynamics, so here's hoping it's with Criterion

Has anyone paid attention to what shows up on the Channel and what eventually gets released on disc that is not a Janus title? I see Niagara is playing on the Channel this coming month. The Fox disc seems to be out of print. Plus, Henry Hathaway had a phantom page. Trying to put the pieces together. I could see Criterion giving this a release.

I don't think any Fox titles have gone from streaming to disc.

Off the top of my head, the Marlon Riggs titles, The Elephant Man, The Incredible Sheinking Man, Merrily We Go To Hell, Dance Girl Dance have appeared on the channel before getting a disc release from Criterion. (Well The Piano too, but I don't know if Janus has the rights to that now or if Criterion only has the disc rights.)

I went to watch The Mystery of Picasso just now and discovered that there's no play button for the film itself, though there is one for the trailer. I know it was available at the beginning of the month because I watched a few minutes of it then, but I haven't looked at it recently, so I don't know how long it's been like this. Does anyone know what's going on there?

Very excited to see Rhayne Vermette's Ste. Anne in the lineup. Been keen on seeing it since reading the festival write ups (she's also part of a collective of native/indigenous filmmakers co-founded by Sky Hopinka).

Ummm Yvonne Rainer's Film About a Woman Who… is on the Channel, which as far as I know is an incredibly rare and priceless offering- I think you can only rent/purchase this film for a very expensive price and for universities-only. Crossing my fingers this means something physical is in the pipeline!

It's been available for rent and purchase on Kino's digital distribution platform for at least a year or two. They also have Lives of Performers but not any of the others that Zeitgeist previously released on institutional DVDs. They're both on Kanopy too, for those who have access to that.

I knew that her work was on Kanopy, but I thought I had checked them all on Kino's digital distribution platform without luck. Glad to be wrong- thanks for the info!
