Re: Arrow Announcements, Speculation & Wild, Irresponsible Conjecture
If it is a US studio, then Paramount or Fox are the only two I can think of, but neither of those are licensing right now. However, if Paramount is still willing to license titles from the various catalogs they own and if Olive's rights to their Paramount licenses are expiring that would make sense.

Could be a major foreign company. Toho, Shochiku, and Fortune Star all seem like solid possiblities, especially the first two as Arrow has really been doing a tremendous job with Japanese cinema these last two years. I know Toho has been strict about licensing these last few years, but seeing as Arrow has a large pool of contributors that have connections to the Japanese film industry, I can easily see them licensing things from Toho like Throw Away Your Books and Riot in the Streets or Goyokin.

Could also potentially be Studiocanal or Lionsgate?

They have releases Toho titles in the US.
I can not recall if they have released any Shochiku titles (I am not aware of how many films are in Shochiku's catalog, but Criterion/Janus has hundreds of their titles.)
Fortune Star is possible, but in the US that catalog seems picked over already with Miramax still controlling a bunch and numerous labels having deals with them.
StudioCanal was my first guess when I thought it was possible that it was a UK only deal. Still possible I suppose, but between Kino, Shout, Criterion, Film Movement, and Severin, I wonder what would be left that would interest Arrow.
Lionsgate is possible, if they have decided to start licensing beyond doing it when a filmmaker requests it.
I did have a thought last night, a long shot, that it could be New Amsterdam Entertainment two big titles: Dawn of the Dead and Martin. I know the UK release of Dawn is fantastic and Martin should be too, but very few people import, so there should be a substantial market for US releases.

It sounds like he's saying that they have licensed from this company for U.K titles but none for U.S.

Yeah... it does sound like it's a new to the US licensor; which is why I was thinking it could be for the Republic Pictures stuff from Paramount. They've already released some Republic titles in the UK on the Academy range. Rumors of Monster Squad next year. Olive Films release seems to be unavailable. Not sure if Olive Films is even still active. If I were reading the tea leaves, it's probably the most likely "major licensor" outside the suggested possibility of another Japanese studio.

I noticed during the Arrow sale that the Blood Hunger box is now listed as “Jose Larraz Vol. 1” so I suspect we may see a bundle coming like they have done for Sergio Martino, Giallo’s etc. likely consisting of Edge of the Axe, Deadly Manor and another title (Rest in Pieces would make the most sense)

The Happiness of the Katakuris is part of the Shochiku catalog, but I don't know if that's who Arrow licensed it from. It seems to be the only Shochiku title they've released, or at least that I can find.

Rest in Pieces already got a release from VS so if they do it would be UK only. I'm sure it will be another nice looking box that those that have been collecting all along miss out on.Nw_jahrles wrote: ↑Mon Oct 25, 2021 1:41 pmI noticed during the Arrow sale that the Blood Hunger box is now listed as “Jose Larraz Vol. 1” so I suspect we may see a bundle coming like they have done for Sergio Martino, Giallo’s etc. likely consisting of Edge of the Axe, Deadly Manor and another title (Rest in Pieces would make the most sense)
Edit: then again there could be a Vol 2 with new titles. The blu-rays for Emma, Stigma, and Black Candles have all gone OOP here and there are other titles that haven't been on blu-ray yet.

A BR user had a postcard for Naked Lunch with a new Arrow order.

I'm not sure if I want "Sleep" to be the Andy Warhol film or not.

Are we thinking Dillinger will be a 4K upgrade of the Milius film, or just the US release being ported over to the UK?

I'm so glad that they are continuing the Masumura's long enough to release Red Angel which is among his best films.

Yes if you mean replacing the Fantoma releases, but Arrow has already put out three of his films that they hadn't, and there are dozens more in his filmography (not that I've seen any of them)

Oh right. I never bought that one which is why I forgot it. But yeah like you said there have been a few not from Fantomas so more titles could happen. It would be nice if they did a box (and by that I don't mean a re-boxing of these individual titles, ugh)

Yeah, I was talking about the Fantoma releases. (Sorta inspired by someone else listing the Controversial Classics box in the Warner Archive box.) I'm just hoping that at least the six titles in that run get reissued. Everything else is a bonus.
Fantoma was a good label.
...Wait a minute. Three? There's Irezumi, Black Report, and...?

Black Report and Black Test Car are paired together, so maybe that’s the third film, only across two releases? Or did Fantoma release that already?agnamaracs wrote: ↑Thu Oct 28, 2021 1:43 pmYeah, I was talking about the Fantoma releases. Fantoma only did Black Test Car. Swo is mistaken. Only 2 non-Fantoma's have come out.

Not sure what Arrow has access to and whether this can be used as any indication but other Masumura titles that have blu-rays in Japan (based on blu-ray.com):
For My Daughter's 7th Birthday
Nakano Spy School
Lullaby of the Earth
Double Suicide of Sonezaki
