Barfly from the Cannon/Golan-Group Group also seems like a shoe-in (Criterion has expressed interest in the past, and it's presumably available).

Does anyone here know if Straw Dogs and/or Sid and Nancy can be sub-licensed (is that the issue?), or are those tied-up for the forseeable future?

I've been holding out for Eat Drink Man Woman. Every time I hear of a new MGM deal, I get my hopes up. Maybe this time... *stares longingly out of a window*

Sid and Nancy would be a possibility but Straw Dogs was sublicensed to MGM from Disney. I actually wonder if MGM would let Criterion have Spinal Tap back. 2014 is the film's 30th Anniversary....

Mike Figgis and Peter Bogdanovich have both hinted at Leaving Las Vegas and Texasville as possible titles.

MGM did license Carrie to Scream Factory but that deal fell apart over issues regarding the creation of a new HD transfer. I'm sure Criterion would love to tackle the film if MGM still has it available for licensing.

I know it's pretty unlikely, but if they could double-bill it with A Child is Waiting, King of the Hill/Underneath-style (or Killing/Killer's Kiss-style, also from MGM), that would be fantastic. Both are MGM titles (though one is Cannon and one UA, which might be an issue), and though Child is probably worthy of separate release, given Cassavetes' ill feelings towards the end result, perhaps it is more likely to come as a supporting feature to Love Streams (as was the case with the old French DVDs)...

Well thats a shame it isn't Wild At Heart. Really sad in fact because the Criterion Collection could seriously use a film like that.

I feel its odd that we get another John Cassavetes film, since he just had a box set released not too long ago. That is assuming it is in fact Love Streams. I wonder if this is indeed the year we get a slew of MGM titles and other big studio films of the past. I just have a hard time believing we get another Cassavetes film.

Why would it be hard to believe? That set was technically released, what, 10 or so years ago. It just got a Blu upgrade recently because there were new high definition masters available.

This is easily the most obvious clue ever, other than the one with the ace that was in the hole, and I'm puzzled why people are even questioning it.

Fool, can't you see it's the Care Bears Movie? C'mon, hearts? What do they have to do, spell it out for you?

Love Streams is one of the Cassavetes films that I have yet to see (has it even had an official release?), so it's great to see it finally coming to the collection.

I've seen it, and like most of Cassavetes's films, I'm fairly indifferent to it. In fact, I know that I only saw it a couple of years ago, but probably couldn't remember much of anything about it. I'm glad that it'll be out before the 80s project is finished, though I would recommend watching the superior Gloria over this one.

Where did anyone say that they want anything else instead of Love Streams? If the clue is so obvious, than so is my joke about Wild At Heart getting a Criterion release (via Hulu) when it's on the Twilight Time schedule (much to the dismay of many on this forum). For the record (as I have Blue Velvet & The Elephant Man on blu-ray already), the only David Lynch film I'd be excited to buy on a Criterion disc is Eraserhead.

Hey, what's so wrong about The River Wild? OK, it is a bit 'Hollywood' (cute dog check, kid from Jurassic Park check, excellent character actors underutilised as baddies check, strong woman check, ineffectual husband check) but it features David Strathairn in a role that kind of anticipates his wilderness survival one in John Sayles' Limbo a few years later!
