Good on them for limiting the entire exercise to under 100 words

Even more disappointing than this list, it appears this was compiled in lieu of a full 2019 list

Bold and correct #1, so the rest is just gravy. Thrilled to see Holy Motors, Toni Erdmann, and Melancholia recognized as well - all among the best and most memorable films of this decade.

Read the thing that's right below it - I was not prepared, nor may I ever be, to weigh an 18 hour television series against any of those, so I punted. Cowardly, maybe, but at least I explained myself. Twin Peaks: The Return is on the shortlist of the most impressive works of art I've engaged with this decade, so of course I'm thrilled to see it top a list like this and feel it's deserved.

I actually like this list, even if it'll hardly resemble my own. P'tit Quinquin won't crack my top 10 but I admire that bold placement for my personal favorite Dumont. Toni Erdmann is the one film on there that'll likely find a place on mine, if I decide to leave Twin Peaks off like mfunk.

Never seen L’Étrange Affaire Angélica or Mia Madre... any love here?

Well, Strange Case of Angelica is great and I think has a lot of love on the forum, though I've never heard of it by that French title. The Moretti is completely unknown to me.

Right, I saw your explanation, I was more just calling you a coward.

And for the record, when our forum starts the 2010s list project next year, Twin Peaks: The Return will be eligible and anyone who loves it but doesn't vote for it on these grounds will also be a coward

Artificial Eye released the Moretti on Blu in the UK by the way— it already topped one of the individual years’ lists

Both are at my local library and I'll be picking them up today, thanks!

Manoel de Oliveira is one of my big gaps, having seen none of his works to my knowledge. Picking up The Convent too to try to remedy that fact.

I haven’t seen any of his films yet, but modern Cahiers has very consistently ranked and valued Moretti’s films for a couple decades now, though he’s not a name you often hear bandied about as one of the journal’s pets

The Convent is probably my favorite film of his, good choice! Also, don't miss Douro, Faina Fluvial on the Cinema Guild release of Angelica--it made my 1930s list.

The Hollywood Reporter Top 10 of the Decade actually looks like a list a human being may have made versus all the soulless, flavorless Letterboxd Hitz As Selected By Committee feel of many other similar sites

EDIT: Of course it does, just noticed the byline!

Apparently the Cahiers issue containing the above list also features multiple personal lists submitted to the journal by various directors. Hopefully these find their way online soon!

Thanks! That's the version I'm picking up and wouldn't have sought it out otherwise.
